http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=952460 Bug ID: 952460 Summary: Dolphin with split view crashes at "Configure Dolphin" Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Distribution Version: Leap 42.1 RC1 1 Hardware: Other OS: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: KDE Workspace (Plasma) Assignee: kde-maintainers@suse.de Reporter: arnold.mesper@yandex.com QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- The following steps repeatedly lead to Dolphin crashing: First step (works, no problem): Desktop Folder > Home > Split > Control > Configure Dolphin > Navigation > Cancel > Close Dolphin Afterwards when trying to repeat the same steps as above, Dolphin crashes after clicking on "Configure Dolphin" Btw, I thought to find a setting under "Navigation" to change the behavior of the mouse from single click to open folder/file to double click. The following steps repeatedly lead to Dolphin crashing: First step (works, no problem): Desktop Folder > Home > Split > Control > Configure Dolphin > Navigation > Cancel > Close Dolphin Afterwards when trying to repeat the same steps as above, Dolphin crashes after clicking on "Configure Dolphin"
Hm, I cannot reproduce that here on 13.2 (with dolphin 15.08.2). But I'm not sure I did it correctly... What exactly do you meant with "Desktop Folder > Home"? I suppose "Split" means to click on the icon in the tool bar that splits the view? In any case, a backtrace of the crash would be helpful. Does drkonqui not show up? And maybe it would be better to report it upstream at http://bugs.kde.org/. It's probably not an openSUSE specifif issue, but even if it is, the upstream developers would probably recognize that.
Btw, I thought to find a setting under "Navigation" to change the behavior of the mouse from single click to open folder/file to double click. Is this functionality only available under the mouse settings?
Right, this is only available in the mouse settings. It never was dolphin specific but applied to the whole desktop. So it has been removed from dolphin's settings in the port to KDE Frameworks5. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

On the desktop I see a folder called "Desktop Folder" with two icons "Home" and "Trash". Yes, "Split" is the icon in the toolbar that splits the view.

No, the Dolphin window just disappears. I will try to create a backtrace with the final Leap release once it is available. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Ok, thanks for clarifying. I started dolphin from the K-Menu, opened the "Desktop" folder and went back to $HOME... Although I think that shouldn't really make a difference. I tried again like you say though, but still cannot reproduce the crash here.

Yes, please. If you can still reproduce the crash, try running dolphin in a terminal window (Konsole e.g.), maybe you get some helpful output. And/or run it with "gdb dolphin", type in "run", and reproduce the crash. Hopefully gdb will catch it, then type "bt" to get a backtrace. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

I have 100% reproduction, I add backtrace in CC.
I launch dolphin with split panel, and click to configure desktop right away
Hm, with this I could reproduce the crash on my 13.2 system (with Dolphin 15.08.2 from KDE:Applications), though I couldn't earlier when I tried on Leap. It doesn't happen *every* time though here. Anyway, it's this upstream bug: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=354558 And let's assume the OP experiences the same crash... -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

If you select "Configure Dolphin..." while no other submenu is open, it doesn't crash.
I confirm you reproduction steps on 42.1 -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

And let's assume the OP experiences the same crash...
Yes, it looks like it's not related to split, but as Wolfgang described to one of the submenus in the same group as "Configure Dolphin...". I'll attach my backtrace too. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Yes, that is indeed the same. Thanks for confirming... I'll change the title accordingly. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
