Are you able to reproduce with 11.2 m6?
Yes. Due to your question I installed M6 from openSUSE-DVD-Build0233-i586.iso. It almost destroyed my system in two places (wanted to replace MBR with default code, and wanted to erase the labels of two critical partitions). I'm an old hand, so I checked everything in detail... so I took three hours to do the install. It is now 3:31 AM. minas-tirith:~ # uname -a Linux minas-tirith 2.6.31-rc6-3-default #1 SMP 2009-08-17 21:11:11 +0200 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux System is a default gnome install, few extras, 11.2-M6, not updated, configuration not changed (except fstab). Warning: I have more than 20 partitions. **** First test:
From the "computer menu", select "shutdown", then "hibernate". It fails silently, but there are messages in /var/log/messages:
Sep 6 02:27:51 minas-tirith gnome-session[17395]: devkit-power-gobject-WARNING: Couldn't hibernate: failed to check authorisation: Remote Exception invoking org.freedesktop.PolicyKit1.Authority.CheckAuthorization() on /org/freedesktop/PolicyKit1/Authority at name org.freedesktop.PolicyKit1: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown: The name org.freedesktop.Polic yKit1 was not provided by any .service files Sep 6 02:27:51 minas-tirith gnome-session[17395]: WARNING: Unexpected hibernate failure: failed to check authorisation: Remote Exception invoking org.freedesktop.PolicyKit1.Authority.CheckAuthorization() on /org/freedesktop/PolicyKit1/Authority at name org.freedesktop.PolicyKit1: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown: The name org.freedesktop.PolicyKit1 was not provided by any .service files **** Second test: # powersave -U It does hibernate, I get the cute but useless splash display (useless because we are debugging problems, we need the verbose display - suspend.conf modified now), and the machine duly powers off. On power on, it fails to boot. It attemps to boot, I get some message from grub, but does not load (disk activity led is on). After a minute it tries diferently with another grub message, but fails equally, and reboots the machine. Endless loop. To repair, I needed booting another linux partition, and remove "/boot/grub/default" of this factory partition. I have photos of those error messages, but I can't get at them till I get bluetooth working. This crash destroyed the above unsaved report, so I had to write it again after booting. **** Third test: # s2disk (I'll save the report before attempting) -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
