https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=855173 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=855173#c0 Summary: NetworkManager / nm-applet fails to set the configured DNS Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 13.1 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 13.1 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Network AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: llevrel@yahoo.fr QAContact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:15.0) Gecko/20120909 Firefox/15.0.1 SeaMonkey/2.12.1 My laptop is sometimes connected via ethernet to a network with static IPs, and sometimes uses wifi to connect to my home network with DHCP, or to public APs. Netconfig works fine, but to easily access public networks, I'd use NetworkManager instead. After configuring NM through nm-applet, by filling-in address, subnet mask, gateway, DNS, checking "required IPv4", disabling IPv4, nm-applet happily says I'm connected (and no complaint in /var/log/NetworkManager). Indeed I can ping whatever numeric IP I like. But name resolving doesn't work (e.g. "host www.google.com" fails). To be sure I didn't messed up config files, I tried removing /etc/resolv.conf before connecting. After connecting there's still no such file (I am right thinking there should be?). Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: See "Details". Remove /etc/resolv.conf . Set up a connection to a network with static IPs, in nm-applet. Connect to it. Actual Results: No /etc/resolv.conf is generated, or the existing one (installed by netconfig) is not updated. Name resolving doesn't work. Expected Results: /etc/resolv.conf should reflect the DNS set in nm-applet. There's no NETWORKMANAGER variable in sysconfig/network/config, is that normal? There used to be one in previous versions of openSUSE. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
