As a result, the display seems to burn. I see that X is started, then it takes 8 to 9 seconds until the black screen and the X cursor is shown. During this time, the timing for the LCD is wrong. Maybe the chip/card is left in an undefined state during that startup time? It does not matter if kernel radeonfb or kernel offb is active. I tried to boot into runlevel 3, then ran init 5. Now the X startup is faster, but there is still a wrong LCD timing for 1 or 2 seconds. It seems to me that the chip or LCD init depends on the system load, while it probably should be some kind of atomic operation (get everything done in one go).
