[Bug 1230496] New: Intel Tiger Lake-H HD Audio - no sound from laptop speakers
https://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1230496 Bug ID: 1230496 Summary: Intel Tiger Lake-H HD Audio - no sound from laptop speakers Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Tumbleweed Version: Slowroll Hardware: x86-64 OS: openSUSE Tumbleweed Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel:Drivers Assignee: kernel-bugs@suse.de Reporter: alisia.prince@suse.com QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Target Milestone: --- Found By: --- Blocker: --- Created attachment 877303 --> https://bugzilla.suse.com/attachment.cgi?id=877303&action=edit alsa-info with legacy driver loaded No sound on fresh install of Slowroll: System Dell x15r1 laptop with NVIDIA and Intel GPUs. There is a known issue with the NVIDIA drivers and sound and I made those adjustments based on the following instructions: https://www.reddit.com/r/openSUSE/comments/1aklnpe/no_audio_after_installing... This did not resolve my issue. I installed the upstream firmware and it didn't resolve my issue. http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/multimedia:/libs/15.6/noarch/ I configured for the legacy sound card and I have sound now. Bluetooth earbuds work. Attached is my inxi -Aa output and the alsa-info file. I have only one file in /etc/modprobe.d and it's empty - the file is 50-yast.conf -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

It wasn't working then. Here's the dmesg from now. I added the libs repo and did a dup --allow-vendor-change so I've now got all of the upstream drivers. I figured that I'd use snapper to go back to before if it made a mess. It didn't change things so let me know what you want next. I can roll it back and get a dmesg as it was yesterday or go forward where it is. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

The ASoC machine driver binding failed or blocked by some reason. Could you check the latest 6.11-rc kernel in OBS Kernel:HEAD repo and verify whether the problem persists? Also, is it a regression? -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

I believe this is a regression. I had sound with Kalpa (after doing the nvidia tweak) but found it too restrictive for my needs so I installed Slowroll (fresh install, disks formatted). It'd be helpful if you can figure out which kernel still worked -- at least about the audio, no matter whether Nvidia graphics works or not. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

The sound works - I installed the NVIDIA driver and it's broken again though, so I still need to do that tweak. I'm going to grab the alsa-info output so we can compare them. I'll also grab the alsa-info output after I make the tweak. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

To be clearer: you mean that disabling /lib/udev/rules.d/90-nvidia-udev-pm-G05.rules as the tweak? -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Yes, that's correct. However, I made that change and I still don't have sound, so I guess we're back to where we were to start with. I'm uploading the alsa-info.txt files from before I did the tweak and after. I'm not sure what they're supposed to look like though. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

To be sure, the problem still persists with the latest TW or Slowroll kernels, right? Looking at your alsa-info.sh output again, it shows that the HD-audio device got bound and configured, and it appears OK, per se -- even without Nvidia workaround. Which sound are you testing? Doesn't the headphone output work, either? And, how exactly are you testing? How about below? % aplay -vv -Dplughw:1 /usr/share/sounds/alsa/test.wav If you're using pipewire, try to disable the audio via % systemctl --user stop wireplumber and resume the audio after test via % systemctl --user start wireplumber -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

https://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1230496 https://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1230496#c15 --- Comment #15 from Takashi Iwai <tiwai@suse.com> --- What alsa packages have you removed? If it's alsa-utils that matters, it can be some bogus mixer initialization that gets restored via alsactl at boot time. If so, you can try to remove /var/lib/alsa/* files and re-install alsa packages again, and check whether it breaks. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
