this definitely should not happen: powernow_k8: Unknown symbol acpi_processor_notify_smm
when i boot without acpi=force, then i get: May 26 13:56:24 linux klogd: powernow_k8: Unknown symbol acpi_processor_notify_smm May 26 13:56:24 linux klogd: powernow_k8: Unknown symbol acpi_processor_unregister_performance May 26 13:56:24 linux klogd: powernow_k8: Unknown symbol acpi_processor_register_performance May 26 13:56:24 linux klogd: powernow_k7: Unknown symbol acpi_processor_notify_smm May 26 13:56:24 linux klogd: powernow_k7: Unknown symbol acpi_processor_unregister_performance May 26 13:56:24 linux klogd: powernow_k7: Unknown symbol acpi_processor_register_performance May 26 13:56:24 linux klogd: acpi_cpufreq: Unknown symbol acpi_processor_notify_smm May 26 13:56:24 linux klogd: acpi_cpufreq: Unknown symbol acpi_processor_unregister_performance May 26 13:56:24 linux klogd: acpi_cpufreq: Unknown symbol acpi_processor_preregister_performance May 26 13:56:24 linux klogd: acpi_cpufreq: Unknown symbol acpi_processor_register_performance this also happens with 2.6.25.4-6-default when i boot with acpi=force it looks better. i get: type=1505 audit(1211810874.908:11): operation="profile_load" name="/usr/sbin/tra ceroute" name2="default" pid=1323 powernow-k8: Processor cpuid 631 not supported powernow: No powernow capabilities detected NET: Registered protocol family 10 lo: Disabled Privacy Extensions
Then let the machine shutdown. These messages will not be logged to disk you might have to write down the last three lines (be careful to not add a typo or we will not find the code). Does it hang in a loop and you see messages popping up all the time? Or do you even see an Ooops, a sever kernel error, then we need the last called functions printed out there. actually, i see nothing additional. maybe i need to set some other options or add serial console ? i will investigate further...

there may be more critical bugs in this bugzilla. Definetely. I tend to set this to won't fix. The HW is so old... Does acpi=force help to get the machine shut down?
