The plasma session was not responsive at all anymore. The text login was still working. Also, another important question: is drm-kmp-default package installed? Please show the output of modinfo i915 | grep filename
Never mind, drm-kmp is still not present in openSUSE 42.3 but only in SLE12-SP3. I'm going to track this one, likely disabling the bogus TV output on i965gm, but the situation will be completely different when drm-kmp is used, as drm-kmp is based on 4.9.x code.
