[Bug 269770] New: Add time server synchronization to yast2 timezone
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=269770 Summary: Add time server synchronization to yast2 timezone Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Alpha 3 Platform: x86 OS/Version: openSUSE 10.3 Status: NEW Severity: Enhancement Priority: P5 - None Component: YaST2 AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: casualprogrammer@yahoo.com QAContact: jsrain@novell.com I suggest adding synchronization with a time server to yast2 timezone, similar to the feature Windows XP has. This could use the NTP service or else make use of rdate and synchronize on boot ( on network available after a boot ) and a reasonable time interval when up. This would be especially appreciated on dual ( or multi ) boot systems, where usually the time gets incorrect after booting to another OS. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

If you enter "yast2 timezone" at a terminal, you will get a setup menu for "Clock and Timezone". If you now click the "Change" button, you get a box letting you change the values for "time" and "date". My suggestion aims at adding a button to this box that lets you set up NTP from here. ( See attached screenshot ) For people not wanting to run a full sized NTP server just to get their time synchronized every now and then it could also be achieved with a timer that fires rdate at predefined intervals. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

In my opinion there is no need of a separate "NTP" module, even its name means nothing to an ordinary user. These modules can supplement each other. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
