Note that there are GPLv2 modules on that page. We have no problem with these.
But all hardware-related operations are implemented in proprietary libraries. GPL'd modules rely on these libraries and cannot do anything without them. I am looking for an easy way to install proprietary libraries. Downloading packages from Australian site is not an easy way because they have incorrect dependencies and won't install without --nodeps, and also because SANE backend just does not work without recompilation.
