[Bug 1058595] New: OpenSUSE 42.3 install fails on btrfs when installing into VMware VM with low core count
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1058595 Bug ID: 1058595 Summary: OpenSUSE 42.3 install fails on btrfs when installing into VMware VM with low core count Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Distribution Version: Leap 42.3 Hardware: x86-64 OS: openSUSE 42.3 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation Assignee: yast2-maintainers@suse.de Reporter: ddunn@vmware.com QA Contact: jsrain@suse.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- Created attachment 740566 --> http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/attachment.cgi?id=740566&action=edit Installer error screenshot When installing OpenSUSE 42.3 LEAP GA ISO into a VMware VM, the installer will fail. The displayed error message is "YaST2 - installation @ install. Subprocess failed. Error: RPM failed: error. unpacking of archive failed on file /usr/share/man/man7/ddp.7.gz: cpio: rename failed - No space lefgt on device error: man-pages-4.02-9.4.noarch: install failed" The exact package to fail varies. Steps to repro. Download https://download.opensuse.org/distribution/leap/42.3/iso/ Use VMware workstation or Fusion VM to install (I used VMware Fusion 8.5.8) New… Install from disc or image Customize settings to change memory to 2000MB, leaving all other settings at default Then power on VM and initiate install Accept license and proceed with install using defaults (including btrfs) Ways to cause it to not repro: - Use ext4 rather than btrfs - Edit the VM settings to provide four CPU cores rather than the default of one. VMware engineering has confirmed that this reproduces across a wide range of hosts, hypervisor versions, and virtual storage adapters. But it’s not 100%. The constants are low core count, >=2GB memory, and btrfs. Asking the installer to retry succeeds. Our theory is that with a low core count, the installer is able to exhaust some btrfs resource that is populated by a background thread. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
