[Bug 228452] New: No Sound and error during boot
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=228452 Summary: No Sound and error during boot Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: SuSE Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Sound AssignedTo: tiwai@novell.com ReportedBy: dchesmore@mcleodusa.com QAContact: qa@suse.de I have a gateway mx6454 laptop. It has sigmatel 9250 sound chip. The problem is after fresh install from 10.1 (which had the same issue) it has an error during boot. <4>ALSA sound/pci/hda/hda_codec.c:212: hda_codec: invalid dep_range_val 0:7fff <7>ALSA sound/pci/hda/hda_intel.c:590: hda-intel: get_response timeout: IRS=0x0 It shows up as an ATI sound but not sure why. Either way it does not work. There is one point better about 10.2 than 10.1: kmixer detects something there but it does not work. If you have luck, passing pci=noacpi or acpi=off boot option might help. Also, try to build ALSA driver 1.0.14rc1 from www.alsa-project.org externally. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

I tried both acpi settings but that did not work. I will try to rebuild ALSA from scratch and try that.
Updating the driver did no good. Actually it was worse. It got stuck in a loop during boot and after 10 minutes still would not stop with the error. I restarted the pc, went into failsafe, removed the new driver and reinstalled/updated the old driver using yast and now able to get back into init5. Still no sound and same error. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=228452 ------- Comment #4 from tiwai@novell.com 2006-12-20 08:15 MST ------- Then the problem doesn't get fixed in the mainline yet. This hardware is really weird. Please enter bug reports on the ALSA bugtracking system (go to www.alsa-project.org). -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

Many bugs with SB450 have been fixed after 1.0.14rc2. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
