3. update KDE4 from default repositories, update kernel
Where is this kernel coming from? I don't see any kernel update in: http://download.opensuse.org/update/11.3/rpm/x86_64 # zypper search -r openSUSE-11.3-Updates | grep -i kernel | wc -l
all important system log files
I'm not seeing anything particularly useful in the attached log files. Specifically your kernel version. Also, please do not attach screenshots, switch to text mode and attach relevant text files. In a text console, run the command "script" to create a typescript. In this session, run the relevant oprofile commands. Then 'exit' to terminate the session. Attach the typescript as a bugzilla attachment. This way, I can see what commands you entered and their output. In the typescript, please run the following commands: uname -a rpm -q oprofile kernel-$flavor cat /dev/oprofile/cpu_type ------ Anyways, this is what I see: # uname -a Linux laptop.internal 2.6.34-12-default #1 SMP 2010-06-29 02:39:08 +0200 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux laptop:/ # cat /dev/oprofile/cpu_type && echo i386/core_2 laptop:/ # rpm -q oprofile kernel-default oprofile-0.9.6-5.2.x86_64 kernel-default-2.6.34-12.3.x86_64 # zcat /boot/vmlinux-2.6.34-12-default.gz > /boot/vmlinux-2.6.34-12-default # opcontrol --vmlinux=/boot/vmlinux-2.6.34-12-default --start Using default event: CPU_CLK_UNHALTED:100000:0:1:1 Using 2.6+ OProfile kernel interface.
