[Bug 905808] New: MATE / caja gone mad
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=905808 Bug ID: 905808 Summary: MATE / caja gone mad Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Distribution Version: 13.2 Hardware: x86-64 OS: openSUSE 13.2 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: X11 Applications Assignee: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com Reporter: nrickert@ameritech.net QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:33.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/33.0 Build Identifier: This is a second computer where I have installed MATE. When I login to MATE, the panel is filled with a gazillion "caja" icons. The number seems to be ever growing. There is only one caja process running, as far as I can see. It is at around 88% of cpu. I had to use CTRL-ALT-BACKSPACE to abort the X-session. This did not happen for my first MATE install, so I'll list the main differences. First install (behaves properly): Intel video, only MATE desktop is installed. Second install (behaves badly): Nvidia video with the "nvidia" 304.123 driver, installed via the "nvidia" repo. KDE, Gnome, XFCE, LXDE all installed in addition to MATE. I'm guessing that it is the nvidia graphics causing the problem, but that is only a guess. I will attach a copy of ".xsession-errors-:0" Reproducible: Didn't try This happens for every login. I was able to add a MATE menu to the panel. Using "logout" from the menu does not terminate the session. I had to use CTRL-ALT-BACKSPACE for that. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

There are many "caja" errors (or many repeats of the same error) in the attached file. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

the same problem?
Yes, it does seem to be the same problem. But bug 856845 is marked as fixed. I guess the fix didn't stick. I searched for "caja" before reporting. Nothing showed up. But maybe the search only looks at open bugs. And I have since noticed that there's a discussion of the problem in a forum thread: https://forums.opensuse.org/showthread.php/502119-Problem-using-Mate-with-13... -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=905808 --- Comment #5 from Jigish Gohil <cyberorg@opensuse.org> --- rm ~/.gtkrc-2.0 or Commenting out this line from it: include /usr/share/themes/oxygen-gtk/gtk-2.0/gtkrc starts mate normally so something in mate/caja needs to handle that properly. This file is created by KDE if it does not exist, running touch ~/.gtkrc-2-0 before starting kde for the first time leaves the file empty, this also works. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

I tried removing the caja package (as indicated somewhere else), logging out/in -> now there are no caja avalanches. Reinstall caja, log out/in. Now the problem is back. Workaround: if you can launch a terminal quickly enough, it seems like a "killall caja" will stop the madness (it'll take a while, though). I also experienced other strange behavior with caja, but I'm opening other bugs for that. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
