[Bug 1234914] New: kernel-firmware-nvidia-gspx-G06-cuda lagging behind breaks nvidia-open for Tumbleweed users
https://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1234914 Bug ID: 1234914 Summary: kernel-firmware-nvidia-gspx-G06-cuda lagging behind breaks nvidia-open for Tumbleweed users Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Tumbleweed Version: Current Hardware: x86-64 OS: openSUSE Tumbleweed Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: X11 3rd Party Driver Assignee: gfx-bugs@suse.de Reporter: bizyaev@zoho.com QA Contact: sndirsch@suse.com Target Milestone: --- Found By: --- Blocker: --- • kernel-firmware-nvidia-gspx-G06-cuda is at the only available version 560.35.03. • nvidia-open-driver-G06-signed-cuda-kmp-default has versions 560.35.03_k6.11.8_1-2.1 and 565.57.01_k6.12.6_1-3.1, but only the former can be installed because of kernel-firmware-nvidia-gspx-G06-cuda's version. • Notice how the kernel module's versions are kernel-specific, but nothing prevents zypper from upgrading the kernel to 6.12.6 anyway, leaving users without a working GPU driver. The workaround is to keep booting with the old kernel while it's still available in the system. It's unclear what blocks timely updates for kernel-firmware-nvidia-gspx-G06-cuda, since kernel-firmware-nvidia-gspx-G06 (the non-CUDA counterpart) is at the correct version 565.57.01, and both are shipped by openSUSE. This is not a one-time issue, it happens regularly, effectively limiting system updates for NVIDIA CUDA users to the short time windows when kernel-firmware-nvidia-gspx-G06-cuda's and nvidia-open-driver-G06-signed-cuda-kmp-default's versions align. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Looks like openSUSE will need a patch... But I think I found what prevented me from upgrading to 565 with kernel-firmware-nvidia-gspx-G06: the "cuda-drivers" package requires "nvidia-driver-G06-kmp or nvidia-open-driver-G06-kmp", neither of which is provided by nvidia-open-driver-G06-signed-cuda-kmp-default. I had to uninstall "cuda-drivers" and CUDA runtime components for dependencies to resolve. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
