[Bug 841673] New: vboxsf: directory listing eats all cpu+mem without results
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=841673 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=841673#c0 Summary: vboxsf: directory listing eats all cpu+mem without results Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Factory Version: 13.1 Beta 1 Platform: Other OS/Version: SUSE Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Other AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: Yarny@public-files.de QAContact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:23.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/23.0 Listing the content of a VirtualBox shared folder (filesystem type "vboxsf") hangs with 100% cpu usage. After a while, 'ls' fails with the message "memory exhausted". I tested this with 13.1 beta1 KDE Live CD (openSUSE-Factory-KDE-Live-Build0725-x86_64.iso) within a VirtualBox, hosted by openSUSE 12.3. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Create a VirtualBox with a shared folder 2. Boot the VBox with KDE Live CD 3. Mount the folder ("mount.vboxsf $NAME_OF_SHARED_FOLDER /mnt") 4. ls /mnt Actual Results: ls takes 100% cpu and starts eating all memory While directory listings fail, reading and writing files (cat /mnt/test1 ; touch /mnt/test2) works fine. This is a regression to Milestone 4. In Milestone 4 (virtualbox-guest-tools 4.2.16-1.2) listing vboxsf-mounted directories worked without problems. In Beta1 (virtualbox-guest-tools 4.2.18-1.1) it fails. Tests happened with the same version of VirtualBox (4.2.6-3.6.11/openSUSE 12.3). -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Thanks Mike! Is there a chance that your fix gets incorporated into the final 13.1 release? That won't happen. The fix was declined for Factory because the patch wasn't mentioned in the changes file, and therefore didn't end up in 13.1 as well.
And it's too late now unfortunately. (13.1 GM is tomorrow) But I think this should at least be released as online update for 13.1. This won't help with the LiveCDs of course, but it will help people who installed 13.1 in VirtualBox. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
