[Bug 1056970] New: If using LVM, "use whole disk", and no separate home partition the installer will only use 40GB of the HDD
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1056970 Bug ID: 1056970 Summary: If using LVM, "use whole disk", and no separate home partition the installer will only use 40GB of the HDD Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Distribution Version: Leap 42.3 Hardware: All OS: openSUSE 42.3 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation Assignee: yast2-maintainers@suse.de Reporter: taltamirh@gmail.com QA Contact: jsrain@suse.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/60.0.3112.113 Safari/537.36 Build Identifier: When installing openSUSE Leap 42.3, on a drive that already has an OS (not sure if this matters, but just putting it out there) During the installation, click on "create partition setup". When given the choice between expert or the single drive in the computer, choose the singular drive. At the next page, click on "use entire disk" and then click on "edit". in edit change it from "partition" to "LVM" and uncheck the box for using a separate FS for the home directory (which by default is XFS while the base FS is BTRFS) If doing the above then it will create a single BTRFS LVM partition that only uses 40GB of the drive. tested on both an 80GB and 320GB drive, both cases only had a 40GB partition and the rest was unallocated. If you leave it on "partition" instead of LVM then it will use the whole drive. If you leave in the separate home partition then it will also use the whole drive. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: During the installation, click on "create partition setup". When given the choice between expert or the single drive in the computer, choose the singular drive. At the next page, click on "use entire disk" and then click on "edit". in edit change it from "partition" to "LVM" and uncheck the box for using a separate FS for the home directory (which by default is XFS while the base FS is BTRFS) Actual Results: 40GB of the drive is used, rest is unallocated Expected Results: Entire HDD/SSD is used. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

The unused space is left unallocated. it does not contain any previous OS. Oh, and the previous OS in my tests was win7 and win 10. didn't seem to make a difference. in either case the bug occured -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
