[Bug 742762] New: hotkeys Fn+F11, Fn+F12 don't work
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=742762 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=742762#c0 Summary: hotkeys Fn+F11, Fn+F12 don't work Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.1 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Basesystem AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: sebastiao.correia@gmail.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:9.0.1) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/9.0.1 I have a SAGER notebook W76TUN. The Fn+F11 key used to activate/deactivate the WIFI. The Fn+F12 key used to activate/deactivate the bluetooth. These keys worked perfectly in opensuse 11.3. I did a distribution upgrade yesterday. Now, in opensuse 12.1, these keys don't work anymore. The WIFI is always activated and the bluebooth seems to be always deactivated. I can't make it work. I'm using KDE, but it does not seem to work better in IceWM. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. try to deactivate the WIFI with the keys Fn+F11 2. check the connection, it's still active in NetworkManager and the Wifi LED is still green. 3. Try to activate the bluetooth with the keys Fn+F12 4. Go in the bluetooth settings, there is a message that "no bluetooth adapters have been found" and the Bluetooth LED is not orange (as it should) It worked well two days ago with my previous distribution: opensuse 11.3 -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

In the messages file, I have pressed Fn+F11 , Fn+12 at Apr 28 11:58. But there was no log written in the "messages" file. That's before I change the kernel parameters. I have tried then Fn+F9 and Fn+F8 and 4 lines were written for the backlight of the screen. (I have tried Fn+F10 which should activate/deactivate the webcam and there was no log either. But as the webcam works with skype, I never worried about that yet. But I remember that I had trouble with 11.2 or 11.1 to make it work and there was some log written each time I pressed Fn+F10. Now there is none. ) Then I added the parameters to the kernel in the grub menu (See my menu.lst file) and rebooted. The showkey did not react when I pressed F10 or F11 in combination with Fn. See the showkey.txt file. There is only one line with the code of the Fn key. But the keys are not dead because showkey reacts when I press only F10 or F11 (without Fn). The messages file still does not log anything (see messages0428.txt) after that. Yes, that's strange. The watch command displays a number, but it does not change with Fn+F11/F12. It does change with other combinations such as Fn+F6. Thanks for coming back to my issue. Yes, that's strange.
The watch command displays a number, but it does not change with Fn+F11/F12. It does change with other combinations such as Fn+F6.
That means Fn+F11/F12 key is not acpi event trigger, we can ignore acpi path.
I have loaded the 2 modules pciehp and acpiphp, but nothing changed. The watch command still does not give any change when pressing Fn+F11/F12.
hm... that means those devices don't implement by pci hot plug or acpi pci hotplug. Does wifi device can really work when you try to use Fn+F11 to disable it? I mean you still can use wifi connect to internet? or actually can't but just NetworkManager show up it works.
I also tried the "xev" command, but it's like the watch command: it does not react with Fn+F11/F12.
I don't if that could help, but i tried "xmodmap -pke" and this gives me the attached "xmodmap.txt" file.
The source key code of xmodmap also by kernel emit, so any key code should grab by showkey. But, showkey don't grab any code on your machine.
In dmesg, there are some errors but I don't know whether it's related or not: [ 10.364249] udevd[444]: error opening ATTR{/sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1a.0/usb3/3-2/3-2:1.0/power/level} for writing: No such file or directory [ 10.364336] udevd[444]: error opening ATTR{/sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1a.0/usb3/3-2/3-2:1.0/power/level} for writing: No such file or directory
hm... I also note this message, the above message means udev try to control the power level of udb3-2:1.0 device, but this USB device not support power level control. If this message happen on when you press Fn+F11/F12 key, then I think it relate to function key. Could you please attach on 'lsusb -t' and 'lsusb -v' result?
I checked in the BIOS, but I don't see anything related to the keys.
I also tried the Opensuse live CD 12.2, and the behavior is the same (so I did not upgrade yet).
I know maybe it hard to try, but does it possible try live CD 11.3? I think need compare with 11.3 and 12.1/12.2 for the messages log when press Fn key.
