[Bug 707473] New: kernel panic when booting ISO with kernel 2.6.37.6-0.5-desktop
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=707473 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=707473#c0 Summary: kernel panic when booting ISO with kernel 2.6.37.6-0.5-desktop Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.4 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.4 Status: NEW Severity: Critical Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: luis.garrido@upf.edu QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- Created an attachment (id=441570) --> (http://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=441570) Screenshot of the kernel panic with 2.6.37.6-0.5-desktop User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:5.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/5.0 Hi, I've recently downloaded the ISO (64 bit) of OpenSuse 11.4 and installed it without problems at home. However, when I tried to install the same ISO at work I got a "kernel panic" message when booting the USB with the ISO (I tried several flavors: CD and DVD based installation). Therefore I used the kiwi package at home to create a new ISO with an updated kernel (2.6.37.6-0.5-desktop). The ISO boots and runs perfectly at home (md5sum is correct). However, at work I get again the message "kernel panic" when booting the USB with the latter ISO. It should be mentioned that currently I do have OpenSuse 11.3 installed at work, and that ISO with OpenSuse 12.1 Milestone 2 boots without problems. Thus, the problem seems related to the kernel 2.6.37.6-0.5-desktop. I attach a screenshot with the problem. My system is: - Motherboard Asus P7P55D-E LX - CPU Intel(R) Core(TM) i5 CPU 650 @ 3.20GHz - Memory 2 GB - nVidia GeForce GT 240 - Realtek RTL8111/8168B PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet controller I've run memtest for more than 68 hours at work and no problem has been devised. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Boot with either the ISO at OpenSuse 11.4 webpage or with the ISO I've generated using the Kiwi package. 2. When booting the kernel, it panics. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
