[Bug 696429] New: Acer Travelmate 8572 easyport issue
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=696429 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=696429#c0 Summary: Acer Travelmate 8572 easyport issue Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.4 Version: Factory Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.4 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: roel.niesen@1stsolutions.be QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:2.0.1) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/4.0.1 Hello, On Opensuse 11.3 my easyport iv was working well (port replicator). Because I want to test the Intel HD Graphics, I upgraded to 11.4. Sinds 11.4 the easy port doesnt work any more. More specific: - the internal network an vga arn't switched to the port replicator On the laptop mobo there are several analog/digtal switches that choose locale our easy port conenction. By inserting the port replicator there must be a wmi/acpi/??? event adn that event has to activate these switches. This event isn't registered anymore or there is no action to this event. One of the switches is pi3l-500ae 16bit to 8 bit lan switch (meaning to outputs for lan on board and easy port and one input the broadcom chip). This chip switch by activating one pin of the ic. I don't know to witch component this switch is connected and I don't know how to activate it. It is strange that with 11.3 it 2.6.34.8 it was still working. HELP? Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.insert easy port 2.no vga 3.no network 4. use 11.3 -> it's working but worse intel hd graphic support Expected Results: to let it work like before please give me instructions to give enough info -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I am doing bisect between v2.6.34 and v2.6.35, try to capture which patch causes the problem. Need more time to build kernel then testing ...
Roel, Could you please check, "remove ac-power adapter" then the easyport works to you for ethernet?
Unfortunally it does not work (neither vga sound not tested yet). I'm nu using kernel 2.6.39.1-33.1 from Tumbleweed -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

At last week, I can reproduce issue by the ethernet on easyport, I start try to use bisect to find out which patch causes problem.
But, today, I found I cann't reproduce issue on 2.6.35, 2.6.38 kernel, I have no idea why cann't reproduce now.
The easyport's VGA output always works on my machine with any kernel.
I am using openSUSE 11.3, and will try kernel 2.6.39.1-33.1.
Hi Joey, Thanks for the effort already. Maybe it's connected to to bios version of the travelmate. Do you test on an 8572? witch bios version? If I power of the laptop and then launch it, the external connectors are working. When the kernel is loading (at the height of hd graphics) the external connectors are dead. I use Mandriva 2010.02 and everything was working (only disri till know). So yes, something has changed in the kernel, but what :) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I just tried the 2.6.39.1-33.1 kernel from openSUSE_Tumbleweed repo, the easyport works fine to me on TravelMate 8572 machine. Cann't reproduce issue.
Hi Joey,
Thanks for the effort already. Maybe it's connected to to bios version of the travelmate. Do you test on an 8572? witch bios version?
I tested this issue on the following enviornment: + Acer TravelMate 8572 + BIOS V1.27 (I downloaded from Acer website) + Acer EasyPort IV easyport Model No. MS2248 + Ethernet: Broadcom BCM57760 Gigabit Ethernet I upgraded the BIOS before I start to do the bisect work, but, I pretty sure I can reproduce the ethernet problem on BIOS V1.27. I also sure the VGA port always works on my easyport, so I choice to trace the ethernet port's problem.

I thought currently, the key point is I need reproduce it again on my side, then I can start to use git bisect to trace kernel patch. Do you have any good idea can reproduce it issue? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

When I use 1.27 bios, It will not start anymore. And the machine does a lock up. I don't understnad that Manvrida was working and easyport an hd intel graphics. Dit you use 11.3 or 11.4? White 11.4 the easyport isn't working anymore, but I get also other erro's I don't understand. I did a normal blanck installation of 11.4 did updates, no eaysport. Activate Thumbleweed and now get some other issues. May bad notebook??? But how can a old verison (Mandriva) works and even Windows does not have any problems ???? My 8572 is one of the first that was announced by Acer 2 years old +-. Can I make an iso from my installation and send it to you (if so how ?:) ) I will take my secound easyport replicator at home and to some test. Let you know it tonight. Hi, I tested it on my second easyport iv ms2248. Same problem. Total dead external connection accept dvi and usb. Plug out and in the ac on the dock did not change any. With kernel 2.6.32.5 it was working ..... help help help :) Downgrade bios from 1.27 to 1.20 and cleared cmos completely. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Thanks already
Sorry for I am very busy from last week and didn't have time to continue the trace. I hope can continue trace this issue next week. I tried use bisect skip to skip some kernel commit between 2.6.34 and 2.6.35-rc1, but have too much kernel panic problems and I believe not only one patch causes panic: 1780 fb091be08d good 1833 d71f4cece4 bad 3016 380fefb2dd good 4883 637d3847ba kernel panic? 5268 3057856498 kernel panic 5546 ec7d2f2cf3 good 2.6.34-rc5 7696 cc780d380a ? (ON HERE, not check yet) 7857 4b6316b4b1 kernel panic 7899 6da7a2aa89 kernel panic Linus 2.6.34 e40152ee1e good Current status is we can confirm the problem is in 2.6.35-rc1 patch, here is the merge window open, so have more then 2000 patches commit to git. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
