[Bug 1208645] New: Multiple screens stopped working with latest update
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1208645 Bug ID: 1208645 Summary: Multiple screens stopped working with latest update Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Tumbleweed Version: Current Hardware: x86-64 OS: openSUSE Tumbleweed Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: X11 3rd Party Driver Assignee: gfx-bugs@suse.de Reporter: rosuna@suse.com QA Contact: sndirsch@suse.com Found By: Customer Blocker: --- Created attachment 865109 --> http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/attachment.cgi?id=865109&action=edit logs I've found this issue several times, last one happened in late January or early February. I'm using G06 nvidia propietary drivers, having a Lenovo Thinkpad P15 gen2 laptop. The laptop is using 3 external screens connected through a Dell dock station. Latest working snapshot is dated from February 10th, I can roll back to this one and everything will work well. First time I detected this problem was around the upgrade released on February 13th or 14th, with new nvidia drivers. I think there were newer ones released on 14th, but those have not helped either. I've just tried the upgrade again today, with the same symptoms: I'm using sssd and X11 (Tumbleweed defaults anyway), and I've lost one of my screens, and none of them is the main one any more (no menu bar). Right click on the desktop to set up screen preferences from plasma menu doesn't really make things better, it does detect the 3 screens + laptop screen (which I usually turn off), but one of the screens will never turn on, and no matter which one I select as primary, neither takes that setting (so as a result I'm still with no menu-bar in Plasma). Alt-tab does work and fortunately at least I have a console open to fetch some logs. I've tried to set up the monitors with nvidia-settings, but that did not work either. Last time I had this issue (or similar), it was solved by forcing remove the nvidia G06 driver, reinstalling it in a multi-user target and making sure prime-select would use nvidia. This time that did not do the trick. I'm attaching a few logs, but probably less than needed. Let me know if you need any other file, or if any other information is needed (because I know the bug description is not the best). -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Feb 14. This was when the repository was updated from 525.85.05 to 525.89.02. Later updates only changed G04 drivers, but you're using G06 drivers. Thanks for the logs. This looks all pretty good. I'm not familiar with the KDE's monitor configuration tool. And I think nvidia-settings only work when you have one nvidia card. I suggest to try configure your monitor layout with xrandr instead. # force redetection xrandr --auto xrandr Attach the output of 'xrandr' after running 'xrandr --auto'. If all monitors are detected you can make the setup manually via xrandr command. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Just to be sure, I executed "xrand --auto" again. One of the external screen is on, and the laptop screen mirrors it (or the other way around). The other two screens stay off. Is that what xrandr is showing? Do I only need to tell xrandr which screens I want and the position? I think I can try that (I don't remember the syntax right now, but I guess I'll figure it out). If xrandr says that all 3 of them should be on, there's a problem then. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Hmm. Then this looks like a regression in 525.89.02.
Indeed: zypper rm -u nvidia* #delete any other thing containing nvidia with zypper Downloaded 525.85.05 for x86_64 from nvidia website sudo systemctl isolate multi-user.target Execute the installer Reboot All 3 screens detected. Other than needing to switch the order (which worked at the first try), everything else working. Only thing is that I still have no menu bar. But I guess this might be some other problem, or at most, some bug in plasma, so let's forget about it. I have tumbleweed with the latest patches and can easily test nvidia-drivers if the latest version gets a patch. Let me know if you need anything else, logs or similar. Good idea to test with the installer of the old driver release. In theory it would be possible that the issue with the new driver release is a packaging issue. I just tried with the 525.89.02 version directly from Nvidia site, and I saw the same problems, those are actually evident since the log-in screen, but I logged in just in case and saw the same issues, with one of the screens never working and another one not either most of the times. I switched back to binary 525.85.05 and everything's working again. So I would say that it looks like the packaging was not the culprit, at least this time. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
