Is there anything wrong with these instructions? http://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/ModemManager/Debugging/
Just killing ModemManager does not work because it gets started again immediately.
Please try them. systemd makes a lot of difference in that question. I failed to consider that 13.1 has systemd. Sorry. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Looks like https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=54791
I have created /etc/modprobe.d/50-cdc_ncm.conf containing line options cdc_ncm prefer_mbim=N and it works again.
This "fix" is working for me as well. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Assuming we are having the same problem, I can report that this workaround does not fix the issue for me. NetworkManager still does not recognize any 3G modem, and as a result greys out the configuration options for it. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Did you double check that "Enable Mobile Broadband" is checked if you *right* click on the Network Manager icon? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

That is actually rather the point I am making, that box does not even appear at all. NetworkManager behaves as if there is no 3G modem in the system at all, even with the above workaround (I did do a reboot after applying the config file). -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Yours is a separate issue. Please open a separate bnc. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

He already did (bnc#850779). We wanted to make sure, that these are different issues.
However, I fear that all newer mobile broadband modems are broken in 13.1. They support either NCM or MBIM, chosen by the kernel driver that prefers MBIM by default. But ModemManager of openSUSE 13.1 is compiled with "--without-mbim". This cannot work.
Debian patched their kernel because of this: http://lists.debian.org/debian-kernel/2013/03/msg00611.html http://web.archiveorange.com/archive/v/dbmrrKybrWTJ0XZGsB3B
Or they support QMI. Which MM is also compiled without. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Actually I think for now this fix is exactly what we should do. It's the least intrusive path. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

This makes perfect sense for 13.1, but for factory it would be much better if someone submitted libmbim-glib for inclusion. If I ack the sr in G:F there will be much less incentive.
Since I see you Oliver already have a starting package in your home repo, I kinda hope you would take the torch there.
I did submit it last week. Is there something wrong with the request? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
