[Bug 786364] New: external monitor not working on gma3650
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=786364 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=786364#c0 Summary: external monitor not working on gma3650 Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.2 Version: Final Platform: i686 OS/Version: openSUSE 12.2 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Basesystem AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: madmax@teenspirit.nl QAContact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- Created an attachment (id=510576) --> (http://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=510576) dmesg output User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:16.0) Gecko/20121011 Firefox/16.0 SeaMonkey/2.13.1 I have a asus 1025ce, with a atom n2800 cpu and a gma3650 graphics card. See: http://www.notebookcheck.net/Asus-Eee-PC-1025CE.71412.0.html I put a HDMI cable in the HDMI port and there is no detection. I have also a asus g1s. HDMI detection works perfectly. Put cable in and system settings asks if I want to use the second monitor. I want the same on the asus 1025ce. I bought a asus 1025ce for the long battery life. And it seemed to be good in playing 1080p-video. But the video-driver didn't recognize the hdmi output. And 1080p of 720p video is slow. In a few seconds lip-sync is lost with the images. Fn+F5 and Fn+F6 for brightness don't work either. With options acpi_osi=Linux and acpi_backlight=vendor I got it working. But now energy management can't control brightness. In dmesg I found that a gma500 driver is used - not a gma3650 driver. Still - I want to use HDMI output for my video and presentations. I found a simular bug report for a sony p115: https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=774755 I'll attach a dmesg output for analysis. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Put HDMI cable in port 2. No reaction 3. Actual Results: nothing Expected Results: expected to get a question like "Second monitor found, do you want to use this?" Or to see output on the hdmi monitor. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=786364 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=786364#c1 --- Comment #1 from Max vdP <madmax@teenspirit.nl> 2012-11-17 10:31:54 UTC --- I found this thread on intel communities: http://communities.intel.com/thread/29157 With this last result in the intel downloads: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=21938&lang=eng&wapkw=linux*+powervr+graphics The driver information: cdv-gfx-drivers-1.0.3_bee.tar.bz2 Purpose Provides Linux* PowerVR graphics/media drivers (32-bit). These graphics/media drivers are ported from Imagination Technologies* (IMG) Device Driver Kit (DDK) version 1.7 ED862890. Additional Notes Refer to Enabling hardware accelerated playback for case studies using a system with Intel® Atom™ Processor N2800 and Intel® NM10 Express Chipset. And from the release notes: === Supported Features === * 2D * EXA (2D graphics acceleration architecture) * X RandR extension * 3D * OpenGLES 2.0 hardware acceleration * HTML5/WebGL GLES hardware acceleration * Media * Video Acceleration API (VA API) * H.264 and MPEG2 playback at 360, 480, 720, and 1080 resolutions * Interlaced and progressive scan * Display * Heads: Either eDP or LVDS, plus an external display * eDP and DP up to 1920x1080 resolution * Introduced in version 1.0.1, for appropriate CedarTrail SKUs * HDMI and VGA up to 1920x1080 resolution * LVDS at 1024x600 resolution * Hotplugging * Power * Backlight control * Suspend (S3) * Standby (S1) Maybe this helps me for my HDMI-output. I don't know how to compile kernel modules. Maybe I can help with testing if someone provides some hands on description. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

The image flickers. It's not a stable view. But it is better than no image at all. If anyone is interest in more information, please ask. Bug on 12.2 can be closed. I don't need a solution in 12.2 anymore. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

In case you can still reproduce the issue with a still maintained product (openSUSE 12.3/13.1 at the moment) or openSUSE:Factory, feel free to reopen.
