[Bug 205697] New: Network port not detected on Asus A6T wth suse 10.2 Alpha 4 (64 bit).
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=205697 Summary: Network port not detected on Asus A6T wth suse 10.2 Alpha 4 (64 bit). Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Alpha 4 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Basesystem AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: gdoig@pcug.org.au QAContact: qa@suse.de The network port is not detected on a Asus A6T series laptop it does NOT detect this port at all. I did a minimal kde install of suse 10.2 Alpha 4 (64 bit). The laptop details found here :- http://www.asus.com.au/products.aspx?l1=5&l2=24&l3=134&model=1185&modelmenu=1 # uname -a Linux orac 2.6.18-rc5-git6-2-default #1 SMP Fri Sep 1 22:19:04 UTC 2006 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux I use cables to connect to my ADSL modem. No wireless is used at all. Will you include a sutible driver in a future release of this distribution so the networking features can be detected and used. Also can you point me to a suitable driver for this very new model laptop where I can download, compile it, and install it manually. Also when I installed suse 10.2 Alpha 4 to this laptop I had to use the kernel switches acpi=off and nolapic to keep the suse linux o/s from randomly freezing and totally locking up the laptop. The numlock or caps lock lights would not respond at all, could not move mouse at all, my only choice was to cycle the power switch to turn off, Any clues to how I may fix this so the switches are not needed any more ?. I am happy to do more testing, and contribute. I need to know what bit to test next. Thankyou. What is the final problem here? The fact that we do not have a specific network driver? Or that there is a bug in the version of the network driver that we ship? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

It's the case of the fact that there is no specific network driver. Questions: What is the best way to get the driver in ?, so it can be an installable item.(rpm ?). The compilation detailes can be sourced from http://gentoo-wiki.com/HARDWARE_RTL8168 (also from comment #5) Should autobuild be used for the compilation of this module ? I will need guidance on howto submit these kind of changes. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

You are free to do this as an add-on kernel module package. Please push the developers of this driver to get their code upstream. I am closing this out, as there is nothing we can do here, sorry. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

Remove every driver which is not in the kernel then! I am not asking to include the driver in the kernel source tree itself. Instead, I am asking for at least the driver to be in dvd/cd image, which can be installed, when detected. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

But at the moment, we are not adding new kernel driver packages to the distro, especially with the beta releases already happening. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
