[Bug 818433] New: YAST LXC applet feature requests - Default Gateway, Virtual Network Properties, Container Descrip, OS version
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=818433 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=818433#c0 Summary: YAST LXC applet feature requests - Default Gateway, Virtual Network Properties, Container Descrip, OS version Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.3 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 12.3 Status: NEW Severity: Enhancement Priority: P5 - None Component: YaST2 AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: tonysu@su-networking.com QAContact: jsrain@suse.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:20.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/20.0 As of today, It appears that the current functions provided by and exposed by the YAST LXC applet are working properly. To provide better usability, the following are currently missing but desirable: 1. Display Virtual Network properties Currently displays the virtual device (eg vnet0, br0) but the User has no guide what are the virtual network properties of the virtual device, eg IP address range, DG 2. Configure DG (automatically or manually) Currently supports configuring a static IP address, but minimally all network configurations generally also require at least a DG, possibly more 3. Enable Comment/Description Currently, the only way to describe the contents of the Container is by the container name or in a separate file. Is typical of managers to provide a way to display a Comment or Description associated with the object (container). The above are likely not difficult to implement, the last item might require more work 4. Bootstrap images don't currently allow configuring for a specific target version of the OS Would likely only require configuring specific repos, eg openSUSE only requires running sed command to change version number as described in SDB Upgrade using zypper (or maybe simpler would be to hard code the full URIs instead of modifying using SED) Fedora retrieves repo URIs dynamically, currently no version is specified so the bootstrap just chooses latest. 3. Is description supported by LXC itself? For example lxc-create tool does not support any option for description...
there is no such things as description field, unfortunately. I guess some comments properly formatted could be added but it wouldn't be upstreamed.
4. This does not seem to be task for YaST GUI, but maybe for lxc itself.
This is not possible yet, neither on openSUSE and most other distributions, because: - we don't have a easy way to install a bootstrapped version of openSUSE (this is not an LXC specific issue). Until we have something similar to debbootstrap, we will need to hardcode version in openSUSE template, because each version has a different set of packages to be installed to get a "minimal" container. - booting openSUSE in a container still requires specific changes to the installed container, changes which are specific to each openSUSE release, unfortunately. Fortunately, things are improving, thanks to systemd and its way to prevent some services to start when running in a container, but we aren't yet in a configuration where a freshly installed bootstrapped openSUSE can run unmodified as a container. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
