Squid access.log has the following:- 0 127.0.0.1 TCP_DENIED/403 1394 CONNECT download.opensuse.org:80 - NONE/- text/html for each attempt. unset ZYPP_ARIA2C causes zypper to work again. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.export ZYPP_ARIA2C=1 2.zypper ref 3. Actual Results: zypper ref Retrieving repository 'Packman' metadata [error] Repository 'Packman' is invalid. Can't read public key from /var/cache/zypp/raw/PackmanrH2Ifi/repodata/repomd.xml.key, file not found Please check if the URIs defined for this repository are pointing to a valid repository. Skipping repository 'Packman' because of the above error. Retrieving repository 'factory' metadata [error] Repository 'factory' is invalid. An openSUSE 11.1 system can be updated to the newest aria2 from here: http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/network:/utilities/openSUSE_11.1/ I shortly tested that version (1.1.2) with 11.1, updated a package and it worked. In addition, it might fix the above proxy issue. I'm not entire sure about the proxy issue though. The squid log line indicates that aria2 attempts to tunnel a connection through the proxy, and the proxy doesn't allow this. I'm not sure if this is really happening and why. What is the URL that the repository is configured with? Installing aria2-1.1.2-1.2 from factory, which is > than the build service version you pointed to caused zypper to act as if it was installing after a retry but not actually download or install and squid still showed TCP_DENIED/403 error. Apart from that no change and zypper ref still had the same problem. To answer your last questions, I'm using the standard factory url :- http://download.opensuse.org/factory/repo/oss/ I use yast2 proxy to cause libzypp to use the proxy and the proxy is 0.0.0.0:3128 The proxy is on the same machine and it's purpose is to limit the bandwidth my machine uses so as not to swamp other network users at times. I change the delay_pools value and restart squid to achieve this. Unfortunately because libzypp uses the environment to indicate a proxy is to be used, I cannot change to no proxy without a logout/login.
