[Bug 726432] New: Desktop effects from KDE 4.7.2 won`t shutdown while using Configure Desktop under 12.1 RC1
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=726432 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=726432#c0 Summary: Desktop effects from KDE 4.7.2 won`t shutdown while using Configure Desktop under 12.1 RC1 Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.1 Version: Beta 1 Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: KDE4 Workspace AssignedTo: kde-maintainers@suse.de ReportedBy: creation1985@yahoo.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux i686; rv:7.0.1) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/7.0.1 Hello, i just installed openSUSE 12.1 RC 1 to help squash some bugs. Since i`m using virtual box, desktop effects from KDE make the system a bit slow and to be honest i`m not much of a "desktop effects" fan either. So i have opened Configure Desktop --> Desktop Effects --> unchecked the box that enabled the automatic start of desktop effects --> Apply, and then nothing happened, the effects where still active. In order for them to get disabled i had to reboot the OS from the virtual machine(call it a workaround). Since this is my first bug, please tell me what logs should i add. Kernel: Linux creation 3.1.0-rc9-1-default #1 SMP Thu Oct 13 19:25:59 UTC 2011 (11f65b5) i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux KDE version: 4.7.2 fresh from Factory repo as the RC itself :) Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Start Configure desktop 2. go to Desktop effects and check the box to activate effects and uncheck it again 3. Reboot the system to see if effects are disabled PS: this was best noticed after a fresh install when KDE desktops are enabled by default. Actual Results: After performing the above steps including the reboot the effects where disabled. Expected Results: Normally the effects will be turned off the moment the user has unchecked the box that enables effects at start up and press apply without system reboot. openSUSE 12.1 under Virtual Box, with 768 Mb on Ram alocated and one CPU core. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Here is a link to a screen shoot made after effects being enabled: http://img256.imageshack.us/img256/7070/snapshoot.png As you can see instead of a message showing that i must apply the effects during a time frame of a few seconds i get that notification about a malfunction. openSUSE 12.1 with Tumbleweed(Tumbleweed repo is empty at the moment so i`m running plain stable version), KDE 4.7.3, under a 64 bit system, with Nvidia driver 285.05.09 installed for my Nvidia GeForce 9400 GT. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
