[Bug 1087261] New: After kernel update 4.4.120, resumes leaves a black screen and KDE sessions fail to be restored
http://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1087261 Bug ID: 1087261 Summary: After kernel update 4.4.120, resumes leaves a black screen and KDE sessions fail to be restored Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Distribution Version: Leap 42.3 Hardware: x86-64 OS: openSUSE 42.3 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: KDE Workspace (Plasma) Assignee: opensuse-kde-bugs@opensuse.org Reporter: dario@growingman.com QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- The recent kernel upgrade from 4.4.114 to 4.4.120 introduced some regression causing the following problems: - after successful suspend, resume was able to bring the machine back, but with a black screen. I was able to ssh into the machine, which seems to be working fine, but no display. Switching to a console ctrl-alt-F1, ctrl-backspace to restart X11, or any other key for that matter, do nothing. - after login, the saved KDE session does not get restored properly and Konsole has major problems to open new tabs (after a long time it shows "Could not start program '/bin/bash' with arguments '/bin/bash'", but after some more time it shows the prompt, but that tab can't be closed anymore). I am unsure as to whether the two are related. I had a look around in the logs/journalctl, but found nothing that could give my limited skills a clue on the cause. I was able revert back to the previous kernel-default version and the problems disappeared. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Well, then it's rather a problem with the kernel update I would say, not KDE/plasma (which wasn't changed anyway). Btw, you are not supposed to change the Priority, that field is reserved for the developers/maintainers to prioritize the bugs they are working on. Only the "Severity" field is to be set by the reporter. See https://bugzilla.suse.com/page.cgi?id=importance_matrix.html -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Sure. With or without the 4.4.120 update ?
It's fine no matter which. But the outputs of "rpm -q kernel-default" and "rpm -q drm-kmp-default" are still missing. Please show these. I have already a wild guess, but still need to make sure whether you did already install drm-kmp for the older kernel or not. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
