[Bug 1095186] New: Errors in NVidia-driver: resolution, second monitor,
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1095186 Bug ID: 1095186 Summary: Errors in NVidia-driver: resolution, second monitor, Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Tumbleweed Version: Current Hardware: 64bit OS: openSUSE Factory Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: X11 3rd Party Driver Assignee: xorg-maintainer-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com Reporter: j.reitsma@hccnet.nl QA Contact: sndirsch@suse.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- Since a few snapshots the NVidia driver 390-59-8.1-x86-64 from obs://build.suse.de/Propietary:X11:Drivers on kernel 4.16.11-1-default gives unsatisfactory results: - the resolution is far too low - the second monitor gets no signal - nvdock fails to start, so the settings cannot be altered. See https://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-factory/2018-05/msg00481.html The driver is loaded if my judgment is correct: lsmod | grep nvidia nvidia_drm 45056 0 nvidia_modeset 1110016 1 nvidia_drm nvidia_uvm 851968 0 nvidia 14376960 83 nvidia_modeset,nvidia_uvm drm_kms_helper 200704 1 nvidia_drm drm 458752 3 nvidia_drm,drm_kms_helper ipmi_msghandler 61440 2 nvidia,ipmi_devintf nvdock when returns with nvdock nvidia settings was not found. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

nvidia settings was not found.
This looks like you don't have the nvidia-settings binary. The binary is in x11-video-nvidiaG04 package. Do you have it installed? If not, that would also explain the other issues. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

That did the trick, thanks! I had searched for nvidia-settings in Yast software management, but failed to find it... -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Please run nvidia-bug-report.sh and *attach* the result. Thanks.
The issue is solved, see my reply to comment #2. So I think running the script is unnecessary (and will deliver not the original results probably). Maybe apsckage x11-video-nvidiaG04 should be a dependency for the NVidia driver package? Thanks for your reaction. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

And by the way, nvidia-gfxG04-kmp-default recommends x11-video-nvidiaG04 and nvidia-glG04. And 11-video-nvidiaG04 requires nvidia-computeG04 ...
I see. Never installed recommended packages up till now, actually never used zypper -inr. Learned something again. By the way, that I could not find nvidia settings, is because I looked for "nvidia settings" in Yast, not for "nvidia-settings". The former being the expression in the complaint of nvdock... -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
