[Bug 1083195] New: No sound on T100TAF
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1083195 Bug ID: 1083195 Summary: No sound on T100TAF Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Tumbleweed Version: Current Hardware: x86-64 OS: openSUSE 42.3 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Sound Assignee: tiwai@suse.com Reporter: raffarti@gmail.com QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- Created attachment 762041 --> http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/attachment.cgi?id=762041&action=edit alsa-info.sh output There's no sound on T100TAF on Tumbleweed. dmesg shows the T100TAF specific kernel quirks. Whenever pulseaudio tries to load the card a bunch of `Baytrail Audio Port: ASoC: no backend DAIs enabled for Baytrail Audio Port` are listed in dmesg and it fails to load. Note that t100taf have audio partially working out of the box on fedora. I've tried to copy fw_sst_0f28_ssp0.bin (which is missing on opensuse) and fw_sst_0f28.bin from fedora with no changes (dmesg also shows the same firmware version). I've blacklisted snd_hdmi_lpe_audio as it was giving additional headaches to pulseaudio. Using the UCM file doesn't help and pulseaudio should load the card even without it. Tested using 4.15 vanilla and default from tumbleweed and 4.16-rc2 from git. Everything looks in place as far as I can tell (kernel patches, firmware, ucm), yet there's no audio at all. Maybe a kernel configuration issue? -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

There's no sound on T100TAF on Tumbleweed. dmesg shows the T100TAF specific kernel quirks. Whenever pulseaudio tries to load the card a bunch of `Baytrail Audio Port: ASoC: no backend DAIs enabled for Baytrail Audio Port` are listed in dmesg and it fails to load.
This means that the mixer isn't set up. Usually it's done via UCM profile.
Note that t100taf have audio partially working out of the box on fedora. I've tried to copy fw_sst_0f28_ssp0.bin (which is missing on opensuse) and fw_sst_0f28.bin from fedora with no changes (dmesg also shows the same firmware version).
These files are already included in kernel-firmware package. Did you install the latest one for TW?
I've blacklisted snd_hdmi_lpe_audio as it was giving additional headaches to pulseaudio.
Yes, it's a known bug in PA. In the git version of PA it was fixed, IIRC.
Using the UCM file doesn't help and pulseaudio should load the card even without it.
No, it requires UCM.
Tested using 4.15 vanilla and default from tumbleweed and 4.16-rc2 from git.
Everything looks in place as far as I can tell (kernel patches, firmware, ucm), yet there's no audio at all. Maybe a kernel configuration issue?
At best, check alsa-info.sh output from the working environment (e.g. Fedora), and see the difference. Likely some inconsistency in UCM profile. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
