http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=911366 Bug ID: 911366 Summary: "Internal Error" during DVD-Upgrade from 13.1 to 13.2 Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Distribution Version: 13.2 Hardware: x86-64 OS: openSUSE 13.1 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Upgrade Problems Assignee: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com Reporter: thejze@gmx.at QA Contact: jsrain@suse.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- I tried to do an upgrade from 13.1 to 13.2 on my desktop pc using the purchased DVD edition. Icome until the screen where it says that a number of repositorys (the 13.1 ones) are going to be removed. When I click on the "continue" button the following message box appears: "Fehler Internal error. Please report a bug report with logs. Details: incompatible encoding regexp match (UTF-8 regexp with ASCII-8BIT string) Caller: /mounts/mp_0001/usr/share/YaST2/clients/inst_upgrade_urls.rb:832:in `match' When I click on ok, another message box appears: " Calling the YaST module `inst_upgrade_urls has failed. More information can be found near the end of the '/var/log/YaST2/y2log' file. This is worth reporting a bug at http://bugzilla.novel.com/. Please attach also all YaST logs stored in the '/var/log/YaST2/' directory. See http://de.opensuse.org/Fehler/YaST for more information about YaST logs." That link is not active any more. The next message box is: " Netzwerk ist nicht konfiguriert." etc. (Network not configured). I am asked if the internet connection is to be configured. Clicking on Yes is not successfull as the same message box reappears. Clicking on No lets me continue in the installation process. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Please attach Yast logs, see https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Report_a_YaST_bug
I am sorry, I can't do that any more! I tried to save the logs by pressing F8 as described in https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Report_a_YaST_bug I was presented a file save dialog. I saved two copies, one in /tmp and one in /root. I checked for the presence of these files by opening the file save window for a third time. After that I continued the installation process. The error mentioned above seemed not to terminate the installation, but after sucessfull installation I was not able to spot those saved files any more.
If not possible, switch to console or open new terminal in installation. Open Yast log with `less /var/log/YaST2/y2log`, go to the end of the file with [End] and try to take a picture of the log with your phone, camera, etc. and attach the picture. It should contain a backtrace of the error.
I suppose there is no possibility to store those logfiles e.g. on an external USB-drive at that point of installation, is it? -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

You can copy the files to an USB stick during installation, but you need to moun/unmount it manually.
How do you do that? In the Qt UI (the graphical mode) I only get a file safe dialog as described in the wiki.
Alternatively, if you can boot the installed system, you can save the Yast logs after the installation is finished, the installer copies the Yast logs from RAM disk to the target disk.
As the installation process was successfull, I should be able to dig them out if they are still there. How long are they kept? -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

OK, so we need to filter out non-UTF8 characters...
The logs are not needed anymore, that comment describes the root of the problem clearly.
Could you please ask the the documentation team to add some instructions on https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Report_a_YaST_bug how to store the logfiles on an external drive during a (graphical) installation, just in case?
