[Bug 807171] New: iwlwifi for Intel Centrino Wireless-N 2200 utterly unstable
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=807171 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=807171#c0 Summary: iwlwifi for Intel Centrino Wireless-N 2200 utterly unstable Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.2 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 12.2 Status: NEW Severity: Critical Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: dragoscos@gmail.com QAContact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:19.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/19.0 driver / firmware for Intel Centrino Wireless-N 2200 is basically useless. I have to be extra careful "not to stress" the wireless network card too much, otherwise it retaliates right away with "ieee80211 phy0: Hardware restart was requested". I know it's also been declared by our colleagues from Fedora since last year, but no real solution so far. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. just establish any network connection that requires a constant stream of data (tabs in browser with youtube films, torrent client, samba copy, on-line radio in player etc.) 2. 3. Actual Results: no more network connectivity, although in KNetworkManager all looked fine. Plus the dmesg result Expected Results: Wireless network connectivity should have stayed stable. I can supply complete dmesg or var/log/NetworkManager if helpful in passing I have one of the older AAO (8.9" screen) that came with Linpus not running 12.2 which happily connects to _most_ access points without any problems -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Stable even under some load (I tested it by downloading an Linux ISO via torrent from a WinXP virtual machine + traffic on the physical box, such as browsing, on-line radio and TV Maxe sopcast). Until kernel version 3.4.47 network connectivity froze down within minutes. Now it's constant and stable. As router I have an Asus RT-N66U running Merlin firmware, set on ch. 6, Wlan N only. The driver included in 3.4.28 on the other hand was really unusable. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I felt quite confident when using it and it never gave me the impression that it would hang or crash. I guess we can declare it solved. What was the problem with the previous version from 3.4.28-2.20-desktop? Also the driver from 3.4.47-2.38-desktop seemed to work well. And "ieee80211 phy0: Hardware restart was requested" gives some clues in driver or mac80211. I will close this bug as fixed, if you are satisfied with the driver in http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/matt680209:/wireless/openSUS..., that would be good. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
