[Bug 424151] New: Instead of installing hplip YaST tells me that my HP Laserjet 1018 is not supported
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=424151 Summary: Instead of installing hplip YaST tells me that my HP Laserjet 1018 is not supported Product: openSUSE 11.0 Version: Final Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Printing AssignedTo: jsmeix@novell.com ReportedBy: sven.burmeister@gmx.net QAContact: jsmeix@novell.com Found By: --- When I plug-in my Laser Jet 1018 nothing happens, I'd expect something like "so you want to configure your printer". If I open YaST's printer module and try to configure the printer, the module is not chosen automatically. If I want to select it manually I am told: "Dieser Drucker wird von openSUSE nicht unterstützt. Translated this basically means that my printer is not supported, which is of course true, because hplip is not installed, just hpijs-standalone. Hence I have to install hplip manually, which should not be necessary. After installing it the printer-module still does not pick the correct model, neither does it pick or offer the correct connection (hplip). [BTW, the pop-up foor selecting the connection is far too small] Clicking on the "connection wizard" does not do anything either. I will use the command-line tools provided by hp-lip to install the printer, yet I wonder how users that do not know what to look for are supposed to set-up their printer. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Hence YaST tells the user that there is a dependecy conflict and asks what to do. I guess that setting the hplip package to replace the hpijs-standalone one makes more sense. This is e.g. done for some packages from packman, installing one, automatically removes the other (xine-lib <-> libxine1). -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Setup of ZJStream printers is not supported by any ususal printer setup tool because those devices require proprietary software, see bug #263181 and bug #342704. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 388149 *** https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=388149 -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
