As about 90% of SAP R/3's memory is located within shared memory segments, this setting prevents to use 8 GB or larger shared memory configurations. dev_disp of SAP says: Warning: tmpfs at /dev/shm is configured quite small with 3584 MB! Minimum value is 8192 MB. If SAP complains about /dev/shm it's a known bug and should be fixed with an upcoming update. At the latest this should happen when SAP and SLES10 is validated finally. You might want to test the packages on ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/people/stark/misc/test/ But please be careful since they are not fully QAd. And the final update package could be different but those should also fix the problem. (Only after a reboot since it has to mount /dev/shm differently.) This new version solves the report problem as well as a number of others.
