[Bug 681102] New: boot partition is not cleanly unmounted
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=681102 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=681102#c0 Summary: boot partition is not cleanly unmounted Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.4 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Basesystem AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: bluedzins@wp.pl QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- Let's say once in every three times I boot up computer, I get a report that boot partition was not cleanly unmounted (and fsck kicks in). The thing is, I always turn off computer via Gnome "shutdown" entry (in menu), so by definition all partitions should be correctly unmounted. Since I don't have boot partition on "classic" hard drive, it means fsck is writing something shortening the lifetime of my boot disk quite quickly. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=681102 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=681102#c1 Neil Rickert <nrickert@ameritech.net> changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- CC| |nrickert@ameritech.net --- Comment #1 from Neil Rickert <nrickert@ameritech.net> 2011-06-02 04:32:04 UTC --- I am seeing similar problems in two systems. In both cases, it is "/boot" that is often not unmounted. I notice the message during the next reboot, that the partition was not cleanly unmounted. It does not happen every time, but it does happen often. I have "/", "/boot" and "/home" partitions. I am only noticing the problem on "/boot". I normally shutdown by first logging out and getting to the kdm login screen, and then rebooting or shutting down from there. I am doing it that way, to make sure that all user processes have had time to end. My "/boot" is formatted ext2. The fsck at the next boot is usually fast, because the partition rarely has any files change in it. In looking through the list of open bug reports, I notice 680836 and 679671 which both appear to be possibly the same problem, they they report it for reiserfs partitions. Following the comments in those reports, I have just changed RUN_PARALLEL to "no" in /etc/sysconfig/boot . I will be watching to see if that has any good effects. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
