I am seeing similar problems in two systems. In both cases, it is "/boot" that
is often not unmounted. I notice the message during the next reboot, that the
partition was not cleanly unmounted.
It does not happen every time, but it does happen often.
I have "/", "/boot" and "/home" partitions. I am only noticing the problem on
"/boot".
I normally shutdown by first logging out and getting to the kdm login screen,
and then rebooting or shutting down from there. I am doing it that way, to
make sure that all user processes have had time to end.
My "/boot" is formatted ext2. The fsck at the next boot is usually fast,
because the partition rarely has any files change in it.
In looking through the list of open bug reports, I notice 680836 and 679671
which both appear to be possibly the same problem, they they report it for
reiserfs partitions. Following the comments in those reports, I have just
changed RUN_PARALLEL to "no" in /etc/sysconfig/boot . I will be watching to
see if that has any good effects.
