[Bug 783886] New: sysstat (sar) not startable
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=783886 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=783886#c0 Summary: sysstat (sar) not startable Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.2 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 12.2 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Basesystem AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: admin@fph.physik.uni-karlsruhe.de QAContact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:15.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/15.0 Trying to start sysstat under opensuse 12.2 with systemctl enable boot.sysstat.service yields boot.sysstat.service is not a native service, redirecting to /sbin/chkconfig. Executing /sbin/chkconfig boot.sysstat on insserv: FATAL: service boot.clock has to be enabled to use service boot.sysstat insserv: exiting now! /sbin/insserv failed, exit code 1 So my next attempt is: mycomputer:~ # systemctl enable boot.clock.service boot.clock.service is not a native service, redirecting to /sbin/chkconfig. Executing /sbin/chkconfig boot.clock on insserv: Note: sysvinit service boot.clock is shadowed by systemd clock.service, Forwarding request to '/bin/systemctl --no-reload --root / enable clock.service'. Operation failed: No such file or directory insserv: Forward service request to systemctl returned error status : 256 Well, after this mess, trying to start sysstat again: mycomputer:~ # systemctl enable boot.sysstat.service boot.sysstat.service is not a native service, redirecting to /sbin/chkconfig. Executing /sbin/chkconfig boot.sysstat on One is tempted to believe, that sysstat is now working. But NO! The init-script is not executed at boot-time, there is no soft-link /etc/cron.d/sysstat generated. (As a side effect: The result of the commands systemctl enable boot.clock.service systemctl enable boot.sysstat.service is, that dbus isn't started anymore. I have no clue what's going on with systemd here. Removing the start-links of boot.clock and boot.sysstat in /etc/init.d/boot.d restores dbus-functionality.) Greetings, Achim Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.systemctl enable boot.clock.service 2.systemctl enable boot.sysstat.service 3. Actual Results: sysstat is not started, also it should be after issuing these commands. Furthermore: dbus isn't started anymore. Expected Results: having sysstat running (and dbus!) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

all "boot.*" initscript should be called "*" under systemd, so systemctl enable sysstat.service and not systemctl enable boot.sysstat.service (I have a fix pending for this, because we had a difference between systemctl enable and systemctl start/status)
But now it still works the opposite way: # systemctl enable sysstat.service Failed to issue method call: No such file or directory # systemctl enable boot.sysstat.service boot.sysstat.service is not a native service, redirecting to /sbin/chkconfig. Executing /sbin/chkconfig boot.sysstat on
boot.clock is not used on systemd (clock is handled directly by systemd)
if dbus isn't started, it probably mean there is a dependency loop somewhere.
please try booting with "systemd.log_level=debug systemd.log_target=kmsg" and attach dmesg output to this bug report.
Achim, could you try booting with the the debug log_level and attach dmesg output here? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

install -D -m 0644 sysstat.service %{buildrppt}%{_unitdir}/sysstat.service (should be buildroot, not buildrppt)
%post %{fillup_and_insserv boot.sysstat} %service_add_post syststat.service
should be %service_add_post sysstat.service (notice the typo). And the service file should be part of the file list of the package. Once those have been fixed, boot.sysstat should be ignored by systemd and the cycle will disappear. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
