[Bug 303924] New: OpenOffice (oocalc) should distinguish between Shift pressed and Shiftlock
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=303924#c290355 Summary: OpenOffice (oocalc) should distinguish between Shift pressed and Shiftlock Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Beta 2 Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: OpenOffice.org AssignedTo: eward@novell.com ReportedBy: sndirsch@novell.com QAContact: qa@suse.de CC: eich@novell.com Found By: --- With some keyboard layouts (e.g. french and belgium, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caps_lock --> Shift lock and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keyboard_layout#AZERTY for french/belgium keyboard layout), it makes sense to use Capslock as Shiftlock to type numbers in a spreadsheet program, especially if you don't have a number key block (e.g. if you use a laptop). Unfortunately OpenOffice.Org (oocalc) and probably also any other application/toolkit do not distinguish between Shiftlock and Shift. Therefore when you select a cell (left mouse button) in the spreadsheet and then a second one (also left mouse button) with Shiftlock enabled you also mark the cells between - as if you would have Shift pressed. A behaviour you don't want, don't expect and also don't get on Windows. How to reproduce: * setxkbmap -layout us -option "caps:shiftlock" * oocalc * press capslock/shiftlock * mark different cells with left mouse button P.S.: This bugreport is the conclusion of Bug #290355. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

As I see a change on this bug, I just add a comment that I wrote on duplicate bug 328238 : I could solve the problem by changing the keyboard setting in Yast2. But a common user will spend some time before to find how to configure it...
As I have a french install, I can't describe precisely in english how to reach the right menu but it should sounds like :
Yast2 > Hardware > Keyboard > options In the menu " behavior of the MajLock key", check "MajLock makes usual caps"
At least, that's how I can translate the french version : yast2 > matériel > disposition clavier > options « comportement de la touche VerrMaj » selectionner « la touche VerrMaj bascule la capitalisation habituelle des caractères alphabetiques ».
Probably this config should be the default at install...
It was the default before 10.3 or 10.2 (can't remember exactly ) but it is not now... It would be great if it will be the default for 11.1 ! -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
