[Bug 916042] New: No wireless access with wicked
http://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=916042 Bug ID: 916042 Summary: No wireless access with wicked Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Distribution Version: 13.2 Hardware: x86-64 OS: openSUSE 13.2 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Network Assignee: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com Reporter: manchette@free.fr QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- Created attachment 621747 --> http://bugzilla.suse.com/attachment.cgi?id=621747&action=edit wicked_bug_report_data Hello ;) I'm using openSUSE 13.2 and Plasma 5. I'm trying to use my wireless card with wicked, it does not work so far. I have no association with the Access Point though i've tried various options with Yast config tools , wicked, networkmanager and wpa_gui. I saw the bug report linked with wicked (bug # 902771) and i'm providing here my data attached. Can you please help me understand if it's linked with my config, hardware or a real bug in wicked ? I hope this data helps. Thank you very much. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Hi! Unfortunately you have not provided detailed logs from wpa_supplicant, so it is hard to say what was wrong. Please follow this comment: https://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=902771#c2 and provide logs from wpa_supplicant. But first could you tell us whether your wireless network is configured with WPA1 or WPA2? -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Hi ;)
i don't know if i'm using wpa 1 or 2, where can i see that ?
i provided a .tgz file attached , is it not ok ? this may help :
# cd /home/fabrice/debug/ openSUSE132:/home/fabrice/debug # ls wicked-bug-report-data.tgz wicked-config.log wicked-status.log wicked.log wpa_supplicant.log openSUSE132:/home/fabrice/debug # cat wpa_supplicant.log Successfully initialized wpa_supplicant wlp4s0: CTRL-EVENT-TERMINATING 1422885313.178740: wpa_supplicant v2.2 1422885313.178764: random: Trying to read entropy from /dev/random 1422885313.179202: dbus: Register D-Bus object '/fi/w1/wpa_supplicant1' 1422885313.179380: Providing DBus service 'fi.w1.wpa_supplicant1'. 1422885313.179590: Providing DBus service 'fi.epitest.hostap.WPASupplicant'. 1422885313.179599: Successfully initialized wpa_supplicant 1422885313.179609: random: Got 20/20 bytes from /dev/random
Thanks ;)
Yes, it is not enough, because wpa_supplicant has not been started in debugging mode, thus we do not have enough logs to analyze the issue. Please restart your wpa_supplicant in the debugging mode (By adding -dddt parameter, how to do it is described here: https://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=902771#c2. Then please try to connect to your wireless network again and once again collect logs and attach it here, best with the procedure described here: https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Bugreport_wicked. Regarding the WPA1 vs WPA2 you should check with your wireless network AP which settings has been used. Alternatively you could you the following procedure: 1) ifup $YOUR_WIRELESS_INTERFACE It does not matter if it failed or not, at least it should be up. 2) iwlist $YOUR_WIRELESS_INTERFACE scanning essid $YOUR_SSID And provide the output from the last command to us. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

hello ,
i already added the line for wpa_supplicant to start in debug mode, i don't know why it's not starting in this debug mode :
Have you performed the following: - systemctl daemon-reload - systemctl restart wpa_supplicant If so then verifying is with: - ps aux | grep wpa_supplicant should be enough Nevertheless you provided with the latest comment info we requested, so there is no need to restart wpa_supplicant in debugging mode anymore:
openSUSE132:~ # iwlist scan wlp4s0 Scan completed : Cell 01 - Address: F6:37:DB:5A:73:CC Channel:11 Frequency:2.462 GHz (Channel 11) Quality=51/70 Signal level=-59 dBm Encryption key:on ESSID:"xx"
...
IE: WPA Version 1 Group Cipher : TKIP Pairwise Ciphers (1) : TKIP
Authentication Suites (1) : PSK
...
wlp4s0 IEEE 802.11bgn ESSID:"xx" Mode:Managed Access Point: Not-Associated Tx-Power=20 dBm Retry short limit:7 RTS thr:off Fragment thr:off Encryption key:off Power Management:off
If 'wpa-supplicant' is not a typo you can use command-not-found to lookup the package that contains it, like this: cnf wpa-supplicant
...
Why does the wpa_supplicant line not work ?
i still don't get why it's not working .
The correct name is: wpa_supplicant (note the _underscore_) So the conclusion: You wifi network is configured with WPA1 protocol (if you are able to change it, we recommend you change it to WPA2, which is much more secure). Up to the current mainline version of wicked, WPA1 protocol was not supported. It has been implemented recently with the commit: https://github.com/openSUSE/wicked/commit/606b50d601876e81aaaca9db26cd0f103d... Therefore please test with the latest master build RPMS if this solves the problem for you. The RPMs can be found in the following master repository: http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/network:/wicked:/master/openSUSE_1... The solution will be also available with the next wicked release: 0.6.16. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

hello,
About wpa 1 : too bad for me , i do not know if i can change this though.
I added the repo and packages you mentionned and rebooted the pc. Is there a better way to see if it works or not ? for if i used iwconfig i still see the device not associated.
Hi, Hmm probably either the right wicked packages were not installed or some reconfiguration (or even stop) of the wpa_supplicant packaged has happened. These steps look suspicious:
openSUSE132:~ # cat /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf ctrl_interface=/var/run/wpa_supplicant ctrl_interface_group=wheel
###ajouts pour la configuration du wifi, au départ le fichier n'a que les 2 >1eres lignes ce qui n'est pas complet.
# eapol_version=1 # ap_scan=1 #fast_reauth=1
# network={ # ssid="xx" # proto=WPA RSN # key_mgmt=WPA-PSK WPA-EAP # pairwise=CCMP TKIP # group=CCMP TKIP # psk=yyyyyy # } network={ ssid="xx"
psk=aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa }
openSUSE132:~ # systemctl stop wpa_supplicant.service
Therefore to speed up the analysis could you please join FreeNode IRC (e.g. using this portal: http://webchat.freenode.net/) and join the #wicked-916042 channel so we could identify what the problem is? Thanks. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
