I installed Gnome, and in Gnome the data CD made with k3b mounts automatically.
Is this a KDE 4.x.x problem?
All of my tests were from the command line. The CD was made using mkisofs (really genisoimage v.1.1.9) and written using cdrecord (really wodim v.1.1.9). -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Gnome is free of this bug so I can use Nautilus in KDE to browse data CDs but this is extremely incovenient.
Can you mount/open the CDs in GNOME also if HAL isn't running (call as root 'rchal stop' before you insert the CD to the device)? -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I have followed this issue, and left a comment good time ago. In my case, I do had a CD inside the device when I got this failure under KDE 4 shipped with openSuSE 12 Final+Updates x86_64.
Can you provide the full output of lshal (attached to the bug) with a CD in the device? -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Let me know if you want that I stopped HAL to perform a new test, because I do not see the answer to comment 10 (comments 11-14 are missing), and I do not know if you still needed HAL to be stopped. Thank you, again.
Please do so. Stop hal and check if GNOME mounts the CD automatically without hal running. And please check if there are still error messages in /var/log/messages if hal is not running and you insert the CD to the device. Btw. the comments are not missing, but simply resticted to Novell Employees. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Created an attachment (id=355155) --> (http://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=355155) [details] The full lshal with the CD mounted. HAL running.
HAL running.
Are you sure this was as you created the output? If so: HAL didn't detect the cdrom. There is no volume device in HAL for the DVD/CD device. Please do this: - remove the CD from the device - start lshal -m - insert the CD to the device - wait until Nautilus mounted the CD (maybe some seconds longer) - copy the output of lshal -m and add it to the bug -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I have the same issue, both on my laptop and desktop. The laptop is running openSUSE 11.3, and the desktop is still on 11.2 My laptop has a Windows XP partition, and I have confirmed that I can mount and read the CD in Windoze, so I know it is not a disk or hardware issue.
