[Bug 1169471] New: HDMI sound profiles not available any more
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1169471 Bug ID: 1169471 Summary: HDMI sound profiles not available any more Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Tumbleweed Version: Current Hardware: x86-64 OS: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel Assignee: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com Reporter: bdonauba@gmail.com QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- About 10 days ago I recognized that my HDMI sound doesn't work anymore. All my HDMI profiles are marked unavailable. I suspect the last kernel updates. At least I found in the OpenSUSE forum a thread from February 2020 that exactly describes my problem. The problem was solved by installing an older kernel. https://www.opensuse-forum.de/thread/43924-hdmi-gibt-keinen-sound-ab/ Apart from that pulseaudio eats about 10% of my cpu time right now. The problem with the speaker-test is known, it's partly a bug in speaker-test. You can avoid it by passing -b 1000000, for example. Are you testing with Nvidia-binary only, or nouveau? In anyway, please give alsa-info.sh output. Run it with --no-upload option and attach (don't paste) on Bugzilla. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Then it's a totally different bug from what I had in mind. In anyway, if you still have 5.5.y kernel, try to boot with it and check whether HDMI works. If you don't have, it may be still found in TW history repo http://download.opensuse.org/history/ Or you can my old kernel packages, OBS home:tiwai:kernel:5.5 repo, too. http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/tiwai:/kernel:/5.5/standard/ If you have a working case, please take alsa-info.sh output on both working and non-working situations, and attach them to Bugzilla. Thanks. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Second, you're right your kernel works. Guess you are a magician. Third and most important, thank you for you competent, fast and immediate help. The fix was already merged to stable git branch, hence it'll be included in the next (or the next after the currently pending) TW kernel. Until it reaches out, you can keep using my test kernel. And don't worry about the long list; it happens occasionally :) I close the bug for now. Feel free to reopen if you still encounter the problem later again.
