[Bug 239719] New: Digikam crashes with avahi-compat-mDNSResponder
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=239719 Summary: Digikam crashes with avahi-compat-mDNSResponder Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: unspecified Platform: i686 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Blocker Priority: P5 - None Component: X11 Applications AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: jerbes@gmail.com QAContact: sndirsch@novell.com When digikam opens the cam window, and it try to connect to the cam (Canon Powershot G2) the application crashes. The problem was reported by mi at 28-jul-2006 in opensuse-factory@opensuse.org, and the text was: "Many weeks ago, upgrading with smart, it replaced mDNSResponder with avahi-compat-mDNSResponder, and then, Digikam has hanged, any time I would to connect the cam. Then I installed mDNSResponder with smart, and it has removed avahi-compat-mDNSResponder, and digikam now connects with the cam ok." (28-jul-2006) But now that mDNSResponder was discontinued in factory, the problem appear for new (it was a old problem betwen digikam and avahi-compat-mDNSResponder). In the backtrace with ddd I got in the relevan part: *** WARNING *** The programme 'digikam' uses the Apple Bonjour compatiblity layer of Avahi. *** WARNING *** Please fix your application to use the native API of Avahi! *** WARNING *** For more information see <http://0pointer.de/avahi-compat?s=libdns_sd&e=digikam> [New Thread -1241482352 (LWP 5803)] [Thread -1241482352 (LWP 5803) exited] Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault. For 10.3
The problem was reported by me at 28-jul-2006 in opensuse-factory@opensuse.org for openSUSE 10.2, and this time the problem was resolved uninstalling avahi, and installing mDNSResponder. Yet the problem is in openSUSE 10.3 alpha, and the previous remedy do'nt work. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

I poked at the code a bit and I don't see anything related to dns_sd. It looks like kdelibs has dns_sd code but it doesn't look like digikam is using it in 10.3. Pmap doesn't show any dns_sd libs mapped in either. Are there plug-ins that I have to install? The other issue mentioned in this bug, which is a completely different problem, is that digikam can't connect to the camera. I tried to use f-spot and it couldn't connect either. This looks like a hal-resmgr problem. The camera device node doesn't have acls set for the user. There is currently a hack in hal-resmgr that adds a property, resmgr.hack_add_usbraw_as, to the root camera device and uses this info to copy properties from the camera interface to the usbraw device exposed by the camera. This relies on the camera interface to show up before the usbraw device, which is what happens in SLED10. This is broken in 10.3 because the usbraw device is being detected before the camera interface so the hal-resmgr callouts never get added to the usbraw device and the acls never get set. Some output for hal-device-manager showing this: DeviceAdded, udi=/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/usb_device_4a9_3070_noserial DeviceAdded, udi=/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/usb_device_4a9_3070_noserial_usbraw PropertyModified, device=/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/usb_device_4a9_3070_noserial key=resmgr.hack_add_usbraw_as, rem=0, add=1 value=/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/usb_device_4a9_3070_noserial_if0 DeviceAdded, udi=/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/usb_device_4a9_3070_noserial_if0 Ludwig, any ideas? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

I think that Marcus Meissner knows more about this. https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=239719 ------- Comment #12 from meissner@novell.com 2007-03-02 00:56 MST ------- libgphoto2 also supports PTP/IP cameras, which communicate over TCP/IP, and especifically WLAN networks. Those cameras use Multicast DNS to do autodiscovery. Currently the libgphoto2 code will only work for Nikon CoolPix P* cameras. I disabled the code for now, and plan to add a AVAHI native version of it. The cameras can still be used, just their autodetection won't work for now. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
