http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=951932 Bug ID: 951932 Summary: gnome online update notification broken Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Distribution Version: Leap 42.1 RC1 1 Hardware: Other OS: Other Status: NEW Severity: Critical Priority: P5 - None Component: GNOME Assignee: bnc-team-gnome@forge.provo.novell.com Reporter: lnussel@suse.com QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- the gnome-software based update notification in gnome is broken or flaky at best. To verify I installed a fresh Leap on Friday, rebooted and let it sit there with a user logged in until Sunday afternoon. No notification appeared that an update is available. One has to manually run gnome software and even press the button to manually refresh, otherwise it claims that there are no updates. After installing the first update, which is a package manager update (and a useless forceful reboot) again gnome doesn't notify about additional updates. I had to press refresh twice until it showed the updates. This has to work out of the box! -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

From my tumbleweed install:
bjolie@haldis:~> gsettings get org.gnome.software check-timestamp int64 1445798976 bjolie@haldis:~> gsettings get org.gnome.software install-timestamp int64 1445543423 bjolie@haldis:~> gsettings get org.gnome.software security-timestamp int64 0 bjolie@haldis:~> date -d @1445798976 sø. 25. okt. 19:49:36 +0100 2015 bjolie@haldis:~> date -d@1445543423 to. 22. okt. 21:50:23 +0200 2015 bjolie@haldis:~> gnome-software is setup to check for updates every 24 hours, but only present the updates every 7 days. Now where we actually have a hole is updates "marked" security updates, these are supposed to be presented to the user every 24 hours, but more than likely we are missing the required bits, either in gnome-software not looking for the correct flags in our patches, or missing bits in the patches themselves. Would you like to take care of the above if the current status is not good enough for you? Perhaps you can enlist some people from the SLED team? Oh and if you are looking for a argument as to why offline updates are a good idea take a look at https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=934901 I concede that the intelligence of when offline updates are required might need some work, so we should probably take that on later. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
