[Bug 652935] New: Corrupted display when booting xen kernel
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=652935 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=652935#c0 Summary: Corrupted display when booting xen kernel Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.3 Version: Final Platform: i686 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.3 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Xen AssignedTo: jdouglas@novell.com ReportedBy: novell@vertone.co.uk QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- Created an attachment (id=399669) --> (http://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=399669) Various log files. See details section for contents User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-GB; rv:1.9.2.12) Gecko/20101026 SUSE/3.6.12-0.7.1 Firefox/3.6.12 When booting the xen kernel the boot sequence gets to: (Xen) Created cpupool 0 with Scheduler SMP Credit Scheduler (Credit) and then the display becomes full of random graphics data. Although the random data might change as the boot progresses it never becomes a usable display. The boot completes and the keyboard locks up (num lock doesn't work) and the computer can only be accessed remotely via ssh. Booting the desktop kernel works without any issues. After searching for similar problems I found a few solutions recommending changes to the vgamode=XXX parameter and/or the addition of the nomodeselect option. None of these have any impact on the problem and I've tried 16 different variations of them. The motherboard is a gigabyte GA-Q35M and lspci reports the onboard graphics as: 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82Q35 Express Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 02) I've tried with both an unpatched install and then patching. Files in bug.zip attachment boot.msg.desktop - boot.msg from booting desktop kernel (for comparison) boot.msg.xen - boot.msg from booting xen kernel kernel - The current /etc/sysconfig/kernel file lsmod.desktop - Output from lsmod when running desktop kernel lsmod.xen - Output from lsmod when running xen kernel lspci.log - Output from lspci -v menu.lst - The grub boot menu rpm.log - List of all installed packages. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Select Xen kernel at boot 2. 3. Then are no issues when running a xen kernel under opensuse 11.2 on the same hardware -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
