[Bug 937765] New: System is not reachable via Wi-Fi when this is the only interface with connection
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=937765 Bug ID: 937765 Summary: System is not reachable via Wi-Fi when this is the only interface with connection Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Factory Version: 201505* Hardware: armv5 OS: SUSE Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Network Assignee: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com Reporter: freek@opensuse.org QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- System uses wicked to start the network. The system, a Raspberry Pi 1B, running openSUSE Tumbleweed, has an Ethernet and Wi-Fi interface. In the used configuration the Ethernet is configured to use DHCP and the Wi-Fi to have a fixed IP address (also default route and DNS are configured in respectively the files routes and config). The network comes up when I only have a configuration for the Ethernet interface (ifcfg-eth0) and I can connect using ssh. When I also make a configuration for the Wi-Fi interface (ifcfg-wlan0) available and I give the command "wicked ifup wlan0" I can access the system via ssh via both IP-addresses. So both can be up and usable at the same time, but only using this set up. When I boot the system with both ifcfg files I can access the system via ssh via the IP-address of the Ethernet interface only. However the system did not get a proper date/time via NTP. When I only have ifcfg-wlan0 and no cable connected to the Ethernet interface I can see the light of the Wi-Fi coming up, I also see the system mentioned as active in the router, however an ssh connection to the Wi-Fi interface is not possible. I don't see an entry in the ARP table for the Wi-Fi interface in my desktop system from where I make the ssh connection. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=937765 http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=937765#c2 --- Comment #2 from Freek de Kruijf <freek@opensuse.org> --- I tried exactly the same files in /etc/sysconfig/network/ and with the same USB dongle as on my RPi1B on my RPi2B. On the RPi2B the network behaves as it should. I can ifup wlan0 and get access via ssh, even after ifdown eth0. I also see the proper MAC addresses in the ARP table on my desktop. After removing the file ifcfg-eth0 and a reboot, the wlan0 interface comes up and I have access via that interface. So the problem seems to be only related to the RPi1. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Could you please provide logs accordingly to the description here: https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Bugreport_wicked.
I rebuild the system using the latest openSUSE Tumbleweed image for RPi1 from RaspberryPi:/upstream/ . Most of the problems are gone now. I can boot the system with the cable connected and the Wi-Fi USB plugged in and both configuration active. Both interfaces become active and I can use both IP addresses to enter the system. There is one remaining issue. The ARP table in my desktop, from where I access the RPi, shows the same MAC address for both IP addresses of the two interfaces in the RPi. This raises a problem when that MAC address is from the Ethernet interface. Disconnecting the cable does not automatically changes the MAC address in the table to the one from the Wi-Fi interface, also not after some pings. "ip ne" keeps showing FAILED.
If everything is OK with wicked here (it seems so as per further explanations), interesting to see would be especially kernel part. What rp_filter setting do you use here?
I don't know what you mean by rp_filter? The main problem is not present any more. Do you need more information? -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

I don't know what you mean by rp_filter?
I meant this: http://lartc.org/howto/lartc.kernel.html But obviously it is irrelevant for your case.
The main problem is not present any more.
Great.
Do you need more information?
No, I think we can close the bug. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
