Does changing /usr/share/applications/thunderbird.desktop to .../thunderbird-esr.desktop, or setting a symbolic link, solve your issue (after restarting TB)?

The Thunderbird guys are causing some confusion. A long time ago Thunderbird was suffixed ESR. Then they stopped it again and with 128 they introduced it again but apparently not entirely consistent which now is causing a bit of confusion. I try to workaround it with the upcoming update.
