[Bug 1176304] New: GDM showing openSUSE / SUSE logo
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1176304 Bug ID: 1176304 Summary: GDM showing openSUSE / SUSE logo Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Distribution Version: Leap 15.2 Hardware: Other OS: openSUSE Leap 15.2 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: GNOME Assignee: gnome-bugs@suse.de Reporter: vinyanalista@gmail.com QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- Created attachment 841497 --> http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/attachment.cgi?id=841497&action=edit GDM with SUSE logo How to reproduce the bug: download the openSUSE Leap 15.2 live image from software.opensuse.org, boot it (you can use a VirtualBox VM), give the live user a password, play with locking the screen and logging out. Sometimes the SUSE logo appears, sometimes the openSUSE logo appears. It seems to me that when locking the screen, the SUSE logo appears. Logging out, the openSUSE logo appears. I couldn't reproduce it in Tumbleweed. So it seems to be a Leap 15.2 issue only. Tested yesterday (Sep 07, 2020): - openSUSE-Leap-15.2-GNOME-Live-x86_64-Build31.161-Media.iso - openSUSE-Tumbleweed-GNOME-Live-x86_64-Snapshot20200905-Media.iso -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

And, yes, I see the SuSE logo on the lock screen. Note that this is the Gnome lock screen from locking the session while using Gnome. If I instead login to KDE, then I get a different lock screen. When that Gnome lock screen is showing, with the SuSE logo, there are no processes being run by user "gdm" ps -fu gdm does not show any running processes. So perhaps it is a mistake to call this a GDM lock screen. Yes, it is similar to the GDM login screen. But then when I lock a KDE session, I get a lock screen similar to that of the SDDM login screen, even though I am not using SDDM. I won't mark this as confirmed because of that disagreement over whether it is GDM. Note that I did my testing with KVM virt-manager. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Where are you seeing this? I am seeing the openSUSE logo on the GDM screen for 15.3 alpha (running in a KVM virtual machine). I didn't check the lock screen, because I normally don't see that -- I have auto-lock turned off. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

It's Gnome's lock screen, exactly as shown in Antnio's attachment.
I am not seeing any logo at all on that screen. Maybe it depends on them settings or similar. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Installed mine on real hardware (brave as I am) from Network Image (via https://software.opensuse.org/distributions/testing) burnt to CD. Image downloaded 2020-12-16, installed 2020-12-17. Was running into issues: linuxrc was complaining that in order to use the selected repository a matching boot image is needed. I confirmed to download and install. After this, the repo path was lost and I had to type it in manually (used https://download.opensuse.org/distribution/leap/15.3/repo/oss). After successful installation, the system got stuck when trying to reboot. http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1176304 http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1176304#c20 --- Comment #20 from Neil Rickert <nwr10cst-oslnx@yahoo.com> --- There is something broken about the initial release of 15.3 alpha. I installed using the DVD (installed to a virtual machine only). After the install, I tried: zypper dup -D It wants to install 43 new packages, remove 25 packages, and downgrade 1555 packages. Evidently the DVD image is out of sync with the repos. I enabled the DVD as a repo, and after that most of those problems disappeared. I think "zypper dup" wants to remove 2 packages (related to yast2 translations), but it doesn't want to do any of the other stuff. I didn't open a bug report about this because it is early in the 15.3 schedule. But until the DVD and the repos are in sync, we should expect problems such as you saw. As an example, the system that I installed is using kernel 5.3.18-39-default, while the repos apparently want to use kernel kernel-default-5.3.18-22.2. Your network image probably matches the DVD, but does not match the install image in the repos. Incidentally, I just disable the non-oss update repo. It is typical for that to not be properly initialized at this early stage in the release cycle. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Namely the package gnome-shell-classic in online repo is too old and doesn't include the fix. So installing with DVD iso is fine, or wait for the online repo to be fixed. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
