[Bug 248574] New: 3D Acceleration switch function
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=248574 Summary: 3D Acceleration switch function Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: SuSE Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: SaX2 AssignedTo: ms@novell.com ReportedBy: jimomura@pathcom.com QAContact: qa@suse.de This is NOT the bug: I am using an nVidia card with the nVidia driver. If 3D Acceleration is "on" then it crashes periodically, so I have to keep 3D Acc. OFF. This IS the bug: In "Control Center -> Graphic Card and Monitor" after a fresh boot, the switch is always marked with an X (ON), and if I just boot and use the computer, it will eventually crash. If I boot and immediately turn the switch OFF, then I can work indefinitely without crashing. The next time I reboot, the 3D Acceleration will be ON again. This is incorrect because: 1. According to the dialog messages, after I switch the control, it should *not* have any effect until after I restart X, whereas as far as I know, it is immediately changed. That much is nice actually, but then the message windows should be corrected. 2. I expect that the program is supposed to RETAIN the condition that I select (ON or OFF) indefinitely, unless I change it. However, it always seems to be ON every time I reboot. So maybe this is one bug or 2? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

Nvidia is using its own libGL and this library is installed with the driver, as soon as this library loads you can't disable 3D because the glx module is requested to be loaded in order to be able to use the driver -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=248574 ------- Comment #2 from jimomura@pathcom.com 2007-02-27 12:45 MST ------- This is interesting. If I had the time, I would at the least, try and document the problem over a very long time. The statistical sample of only a few weeks in inconclusive. But I think that something must happen when I got through the process of "re-setting" the 3D acceleration. It might be something to do with the fact that SaX2 might be probing the driver and the card and because of that a variable is being cleared or set that is not otherwise happening. I do think that if the variable setting function is not functioning in this case, a way should be found to either hide the option, or make clear that it is not available. Whether you call this a "bug" or not is debatable. But a change should be considered for the next version. Anyway, time to move on. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
