[Bug 809786] New: no full resolution after installation of 12.3
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=809786 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=809786#c0 Summary: no full resolution after installation of 12.3 Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.3 Version: Final Platform: i686 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: X.Org AssignedTo: bnc-team-xorg-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: axel.braun@gmx.de QAContact: xorg-maintainer-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- Created an attachment (id=530039) --> (http://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=530039) dmesg User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux i686; rv:19.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/19.0 I had a similar problem after upgrade to 12.2 (https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=788410), which worked after an upgrade of X11. I did now a new installation of 12.3, now using grub2 for boot. Result: Screen resolution is max 1024x768, although card and monitor can do 1600x1200. Any option higher than 1024x768 is not offered. Re-using the files under /etx/X11/xorg.conf.d causes the X-Server to hang. How can I set-up the graphics to use 1280x1024 (which is not offered at all at the moment)? Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. see above 2. 3. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Try adding "nomodeset" as boot option. This should disable nouveau KMS driver and you're back to nv X driver.
And use your old & working xorg.conf. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

nouveau X driver makes use of KMS, i.e. the kernel modesetting of nouveau kernel module. Please forget about xorg.conf when you use KMS.
nouveau is still loaded, but doesn't do much, since KMS is disabled.
...but at least it gests a proper resolution now. And this is strange, as it is basically the same driver...
Please verify, that /etc/sysconfig/keyboard:KEYTABLE is configured correctly. Or configure the keyboard layout with your desktop configuration tool.

No, now it's nv X driver alone without nouveau KMS driver in place.

Looks good. Check /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/90-keytable.conf. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

...must be something different as root, all german keys are where they should be as user, although having german specified in KDE systemsettings, I have an english keyboard.... .bashrc is empty. while working with it: Keyboard settings -> Layouts -> Configure layouts was unchecked. If this is checked, a US standard layout became visible. Replacing this with a german layout fixed it. But dont ask me why a (hidden) US layout appeared... -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
