[Bug 1208384] New: Notebook suddenly beeps/makes noise until sound server is restarted
https://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1208384 Bug ID: 1208384 Summary: Notebook suddenly beeps/makes noise until sound server is restarted Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Tumbleweed Version: Current Hardware: Other OS: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Sound Assignee: tiwai@suse.com Reporter: mvetter@suse.com QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- Created attachment 864933 --> https://bugzilla.suse.com/attachment.cgi?id=864933&action=edit hwinfo Laptop model: Medion Akoya E2228T OS: openSUSE Tumbleweed 20230213 Kernel: 6.1.10 Playing audio either via any music/video player (mpv, vlc) or Youtube. After a couple of minutes suddenly it stops and some annoying noise/beep is the only thing to be heard. `systemctl --user restart pipewire.service` Makes the beeping stop. First I thought it might be Pipewire and found: https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/pipewire/pipewire/-/issues/2806 But following https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Pipewire I made a `zypper install pulseaudio`. And the same behaviour happened with Pulseaudio. Will attach journalctl and hwinfo output (from a fresh install where the problem occured once. So no pulseaudio there yet). -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

https://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1208384 https://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1208384#c8 --- Comment #8 from Takashi Iwai <tiwai@suse.com> --- For permanently blacklisting, create a file /etc/modprobe.d/60-atomisp.conf containing the line: blacklist atomisp About the beep problem: this is possibly a known long-standing problem of ASoC SOF Baytrail/Cherrytrail driver (bsc#1186422). The upstream bug entry is: https://github.com/thesofproject/sof/issues/3868 A workaround is to add the option options snd_sof sof_debug=1 Create a file /etc/modprobe.d/60-sof-debug.conf containg the line above, and reboot/retest. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
https://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1208384 https://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1208384#c9 --- Comment #9 from Takashi Iwai <tiwai@suse.com> --- BTW, the alsa-info.sh given in the above indicates that the system lacks of the firmware file, and there is no analog audio available due to that (only HDMI audio). Install sof-firmware package for the additional firmware files. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
