[Bug 391890] New: When installing from CD, deleting all current partitions does not remove existing OS and OpenSUSE fails to properly install /load
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=391890 Summary: When installing from CD, deleting all current partitions does not remove existing OS and OpenSUSE fails to properly install/load Product: openSUSE 11.0 Version: Beta 3 Platform: i386 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.0 Status: NEW Severity: Blocker Priority: P5 - None Component: YaST2 AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: donrhummy@yahoo.com QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: Beta-Customer I had three operating systems existing on the hard drive (Xandros, and two Windows 2000 installs). Using the YaST2 install tool, I chose to delete all partitions and then create three new partitions on the now empty disk ( "/", "/home", "swap"). However, when installation completed and the computer restarted (and I removed the CD) it started to boot right into Xandros. The Xandros startup screen did not list OpenSUSE as being in the list of OS's installed and Xandros no longer worked since all other info was removed. I tried reinstalling OpenSUSE 4 times (including using the YaST partitioner tool to wipe out all the tables/data etc which it claimed it did) and it never worked. The only way I was able to install OpenSUSE was to go to a bash and type: dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sda bs=10M After that, I redid install and this time it installed OpenSUSE. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Could you attach YaST logs please?
If you are unsure follow: http://en.opensuse.org/Bugs/YaST
I'd like to attach the logs but as I stated I finally was able to delete everything on the server using the "dd" command so I don't think there are any relevant logs (since everything after that actually worked). I could try reinstalling windows, Xandros and then try OpenSUSE again but that'd take a lot of time, some more downloads and burning CDs. Is there any server that the development team has that an install of those can easily be performed on? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
